VP appears to call for Greenland regime change

He repeatedly claimed the island was vulnerable and that the United States had “no other option” than to ramp up its presence there. Greenland would be better off “coming under the United States’ security umbrella than you have been under Denmark’s security umbrella,” he said, saying it was the “policy of the United States” to see changes to the island’s Danish leadership. Still, he acknowledged the future of the island should be up to its residents.

It makes sense to take Greenland if you like to lie to the public at every turn. But what is another lie? Just another walk in the park.

There is nothing TIG can not get wrong.

I am still waiting for the TIG to get one thing right. I have reviewed the entire history of his life. If he is not committing crimes he is committing to lies to commit other crimes.

The IQ of this criminal is ultralow.

As far as the Yale to Jail guy his stay out of prison card will run out. Yale law school is not what it used to be.

They’re not fooling the Danes. They’re not fooling us. Who are they fooling? Themselves. Putin’s hand is so far up the sock puppets, they think they’re speaking for themselves.

there is a poster on this board who touts Trump as the “peace President”, as an excuse to hand over Ukraine to Russia during the “peace negotiations” that Ukraine is excluded from. But Prez, and lackey Vance can’t stop talking about Sovereign nations like Canada and Denmark’s Greenland being brought “under the US umbrella”.
As an American, I personally find this talk despicable.
Was glad to see Greenlanders give Vance a very cold welcome.

I do expect to see mass protests surging in America, against these wanna-be fascists. I also expect these wanna-be fascists to try to use force to suppress these protests. Gonna be a long 3 years and 10 months in the good ole USA.

I was a youngster in the 60s, so don’t really remember the protests that raged thru the Country at the time, although I have read plenty of accounts of them. They were fueled by young people. I think the current day resistance is gonna have to be triggered by old people like all of us on this board.

I hope I’m wrong, and Congress actually collectively grows a pair. But that is doubtful.
Maybe when the affects of Trump’s “policies” are felt by the working class, the Congress critters will really start feeling some heat from their constituents. We’ll see.

A non zero chance that this is coming:

“There will be no presidential election in 3yrs 10months.”

that is definitely a possibility. I follow his action’s, not just his words. Imo, he is definitely priming the pump for that. Just look at all of the EO’s bypassing the role that Congress is supposed to fill. And bypassing Judge’s order to return flight, using some made up excuse, then replying with “oopsie”.
And yet there are a large number of Americans who are fine with all of this.
Hopefully, when manna does not fall from heaven due to his insanely belligerent economic “policies”, Americans are gonna feel some pain. All of us, not just his cult. Then maybe it’ll start hitting home.

Yeah, I would not put anything past him.

Uf! Bold statement! My money’s on stoking protest with all the current shenanigans to justify a state of emergency and martial law. If you’re wondering if you can bet on this sort of thing…you can!

I happened across a discussion on a news program yesterday, I think it was BBC, where the host was asking a [former] ambassador to Greenland [who revels in a certain four letter acronym], What The {Family}?

And the response was “We have to have it for its own security and ours, and the Danish haven’t done anything to make sure they’re not invaded and occupied.” My immediate thought was “Greenland? Invaded?”

So I looked it up. Yep, Greenland has been invaded twice. One during World War II by the US, because we were afraid it might be by the Germans. It never was, and our presence was minimal, although we did build a couple of air strips which morphed into a small base when the war ended.

The other time was in the 10th century. By the Norse who admittedly were technologically proficient at the time, but whose weaponry might now be a bit out of date.

I guess I should count the first “invasion”, when the Paleo-Inuit peoples first set foot on the island, a date so far back it is lost to history, or even pre-history.

So yeah, lotta protection needed there, I can see.

A politician whose name I won’t mention in accordance with board rules (but rhymes with “Wet Pants”) asked what other choice besides capturing Greenland do we have?

Seems there are a few obvious choices. We could try diplomacy first. That seems easiest. If that didn’t work, we could make a security agreement with Denmark. In fact, we already have one, it is called NATO. That alone should be plenty of deterrent. We know that that deterrent worked fine in the Cold War. If that failed, we could call the hostile power’s power bluff and see if they were really wiling to duke it out over some frozen tundra. I’m guess they are probably aren’t, otherwise they would have already.

That said, the Vikings probably never actually invaded. They just showed up. The Vikings liked uplands at the end of fjords where they could farm. The skralings liked bays with immediate access to the open water, so the two didn’t compete much for land.

As an aside, the Greenlanders by Jane Smiley is a great novel set in the declining years of the Viking Greenland settlements. It is written in the style of a Norse saga, which some people don’t like but I found it riveting.
