Apple (AAPL) on Wednesday announced it is increasing its US investment commitments over the next four years to $600 billion, tacking $100 billion onto the original $500 billion the company said it would invest back in February.
The tech giant revealed its latest spending plan during a press briefing in the Oval Office alongside President Trump, during which CEO Tim Cook presented the president with a glass plaque complete with a gold base, all made in the US.
The move comes after Trump threatened to place a 25% tariff on Apple’s iPhones made overseas and in the face of a potential 100% tariff on semiconductors.
ooohhhh, another gold award for his nibs to display. Physican “proof” that he is uniquely gifted and the most remarkable and best person the world has ever seen.
Plastic plaque on a base spray painted with radiator paint would fit right in with the current Whitehouse tenant’s sense of style.
His nibs is all about money. No matter how gaudy and crass, and the more so the better, the “award” is, it has to be expensive, really expensive. Like that World Cup trophy that was made by Tiffany, that he apparently still has in the Oval Office, as if “himself” won it. He claims it was a “gift” from FIFA, while the winning team received a copy.
Apple has been the main driver of Chinese industrialization above all others. We need them here spending all the money on tech infrastructure. Can’t have it any other way.
Without increasing the corporate tax rate much of that money probably won’t be spent.
No one (well, few will) is going to like this next statement but I have to state that Trump is certainly consequently and influential. Even if I abhor his methods (and the ends do not justify the means), the result may speak for themselves on issues such as this.
The other party had better pay attention and realize that this is the new rules of the road. If the next Dem POTUS does not wield their POTUS power as effectively and ruthlessly for their own goals, they are going to look utterly feckless.
P.S. I hate the direction our country has taken as it pertains to presidential power. It essentially guarantees massive swings in policy every time a new party takes over with little to no ability for the House or Senate to check them. And I feel that regardless of the party in power. For those on the right, pause for a moment and imagine what a progressive Trumpian POTUS could do. Your worst nightmares on social policies tied to government funding fully empowered by prior SCOTUS rulings.
They have no intention to lose power is the problem. Witness what they are trying to do in Texas as just one of many examples of things they will do to stay in power, no matter what.
The regime wants to extract $1B from UCLA, and appoint a political commissar.
The agreement the administration is proposing – which, if agreed to, would mark the biggest settlement it’s received from a higher education institution — requires a resolution monitor to oversee the school, as well as a new senior administrator who will be focused on compliance with anti-discrimination laws.
The regime is also seeking applicant and enrollment data from universities, broken out by race and gender, to make sure universities are not admitting too many women or persons of color.
