Ontario expands rapid test access with distribution at grocery stores, pharmacies

The Canadian Press

Ontario is expanding access to rapid antigen COVID-19 tests starting today, making them available at grocery stores, pharmacies and other agencies across the province.

The province says up to 5.5 million tests will be made available per week at retailers participating in the program that will run for at least eight weeks.

Individuals can pick the tests up in-person or order online, depending on the retailer, with a general limit of one box of five tests per household per visit.

Despite COVID-19, census shows population grew at fastest rate in G7, topping 36.9M

The Canadian Press

OTTAWA – Statistics Canada says the national population almost hit 37 million last year as it grew at the fastest rate among G7 nations.

The five-year growth rate was double that of any peer country in the G7, and Statistics Canada says most of the growth happened prior to the onset of the pandemic in 2020.

Wow, a certain former POTUS called our PM a lunatic while asking Americans to donate money to the cause. Wonder what would happen if the roles were reversed? Of course Canadians are not big on interfering in other countries. Our ‘lunatic’ did a far better job of keeping Canadians alive.

That’s assuming the kits are not in a truck in the middle of the traffic jam.

Premier Ford calls for end to ‘illegal’ Ambassador Bridge protest tying up ‘vital trade corridor’

In a statement Wednesday, Ford said the “illegal occupation and blockade happening in Ontario must stop.”

The protest is now well into its third day.

“The Ambassador Bridge is one of the most vital trade corridors in our country. The damage this is causing to our economy, to people’s jobs and their livelihoods is totally unacceptable. We cannot let this continue.”

“I remain confident that our police forces in Ontario, along with Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Canada Border Services Agency, will take the appropriate steps to address the evolving situations in our cities and bring them to an end,” Ford said.

This is all local news for me. The “protestors” spout the same sort of “freeedom” blather as they have in Shinyland for the last two years. At least they aren’t waving assault rifles, like the demonstrators at the Michigan capital building two years ago.

A few facts:

-they have a right to demonstrate. They do not have a right to prevent other people going about their business.

-as the Michigan Secretary of State reminds people, driving is a privilege, not a right. Anyone who decides to ignore the rules can have his driving privilege revoked.

-no-one is holding a gun to those driver’s heads, forcing therm to drive truck. If they don’t like the conditions required to drive a truck in Canada, they are welcome to go to Micky D’s and flip burgers.

One guy was bragging to the CBC reporter that someone handed him and several others $250 each.

That would get this minority out of the way, so the majority can go about their business.

Truck blockade at Ambassador Bridge, US-Canada border shuts auto plants

TORONTO, ONT – The truck blockade by Canadians protesting the country’s COVID-19 restrictions is tightening the screws on the auto industry, forcing Ford, General Motors and other car companies to shut down plants or otherwise reduce production on both sides of the U.S. border.

You’re missing the point wrt the auto industry. The automakers have factories on both sides of the border, which are dependent on each-other for timely delivery of parts.
