TMF has rec’d SHOP as a “Best Buy” several times in recent months. Today: “Is Shopify Stock a Buy Now?”, and it seems like the conclusion is “no”.
I’m in at $392. I’m not selling, but as to buying more…I’m going to have to think this over.

I’ve thought that a couple of times now, that and ADBE.
I’d buy some shares on dips and build up. Don’t go all in at one time.
The bear case made by Fool MFLongHaul on December 31 was prescient! https://discussion.fool.com/shopify39s-greatest-risk-35012826.as…
The next earnings report is on May 5 (not confirmed) and that will be a good time to check out the company’s status. The P/E is down to around 20 which could be a bargain.

Denny, fancy meeting you here! Hope you are well!!
I’ve taken a bit of a fancy to SHOP as it seems to have a long term strategy that is clearly articulated, easy to understand, and restores some balance to online shopping. Now that it is down to 1/4 its recent highs, I’m paying attention. How are you treating valuation?

Good to hear from you! How is your startup doing? Still at it? I’m now living in Portugal having got tired of the economic mess in Venezuela where I would rather be circumstances permitting. One bit of trivia, on the day I left Venezuela, April 8, 2019, I had to wash up in a bucket of water which was all the water I had in my apartment.

Don’t know yet. I’m heavily invested in TSLA and I’m looking at diversifying during this market rout. While lots of growth stocks fell by over 80% from their all time highs TSLA fell only 38% (Feb 23). SHOP now down 75.4% and not yet at the bottom!

There is talk of a 20 for 1 stock split later this year and I’m planning ahead for some restructuring – too much TSLA.
In general I have pretty much given up on traditional valuation tools which have 1934 Ben Graham roots when bonds were investing and stocks were speculation. Now I rely more on business model, basic accounting (growth, margins, debt, cash), and concepts like the sigmoid or “S” curve, Technology Adoption Life Cycle (TALC), volatility and reversion to the mean. A combination of business model and TA. Find a good stock and stick with it.
Whether you believe or not in climate change/crisis/calamity/hysteria the fact is that the world has adopted the meme. Ride it! Energy is what converts minerals into life (reverse entropy) and the Sun is our main provider. The shift to renewables is unstoppable and good not only for saving the planet but because it gives almost all countries energy independence, no more relying on PetroDictators.
Lets keep in touch!
