IPad Air : how to silence only unknown caller ring? Already have that enabled on iPhone13pro but can’t find any option to silence ONLY unknown callers on iPadAir - any suggestions welcomed. Thx
My iPad mini isn’t cellular, so it doesn’t even have the phone app…
Maybe this helps…

Wecoguy,
Well thanks- that is a resolution to my problem. Yep, but as usual I would have to give up something to get something. Their answer is to turn off facetime in settings on the iPad to eliminate the ring. That would definitely work but then I would no longer be able to use FaceTime on the iPad and I do find it more satisfying to use FT on the bigger screen in lieu of my iPhone when talking to our g’kids. Sigh….lol
Can you make silence the default “ring tone” and then assign some other ring tone to each of the known callers?
Good idea: Definitely could do that BUT: would have to assign ring tones to each of my other, numerous contacts - right now only have unwitting tones assigned to family & favs…. Daunting task- yikes
Other possibilities whose trade offs may be less bothersome -
You could turn on FaceTime when you make calls. What happens if when you get an incoming call from the grandkids if you turn on FaceTime after receiving the call?
The people I know that use FaceTime for calls all use their iPhones. I think it is possible to do phone calls on my iMac. Now that might just create another source of trouble.
I send all calls to voicemail that are not in my contacts. If anybody really wants to talk to me, they can leave a message. On the iPhone - Settings>Phone>Silence Unknown Callers
I am not clear if your iPad has cellular or not. If it does, can you turn off the cellular and just take/transfer the call from your iPhone to your iPad? Here is a link

What happens if when you get an incoming call from the grandkids
Since I never had any kids, I have no grandkids either.
So when I get calls from people who call me “grandpa” I immediately hang up on them. Unless I am bored. In that case, I ask them if they are Johnny or Billy. Whatever they choose I insult them before hanging up.
Once the caller even thought he was speaking to “grandma”. I guess he did not listen very well. Or he guessed from my given name that I was a woman.
The first time I got one of those, he wanted me to send a gift card for a large sum so he could bail himself out of jail. I do not know what any of the others wanted.
HI Gordon,
all good suggestions however…
inconvenient to only turn on FaceTime when kids call…when they call, I can see both on iPadAir (much larger and easier to talk on) and my iPhone 13.
I do also have FT on my Mac, however, don’t se that much, because Mac isn’t on on all day and iPadAir (sits on kitchen counter always on usually plugged in) and iPhone are always on, for convenience.
All calls on iPhone from those not in my contacts, are immediately silenced. I check them pretty often so as not to miss a physician call or anything else important. Most of junk/spam and have set up the phone to immediately block them. works great…and that’s what I want to do on the iPad Air but there is no setting on the iPad I can find to accomplish that. Therein is my issue…
Settings on iPad show I have opted to use cellular from iPhone and have the ability to use the iPad via WiFi to receive calls, and I do have FaceTime on the iPad but there are no phone settings at all that I can find on the iPad.
Meanwhile, apparently there isn’t a convenient/suitable way to stop the annoying ring tones from sounding on the iPad for the spam/unknown messages. So I have at least been able to change the ring tones to something more peaceful on the iPad for those calls - so its less bothersome right now.
Guess that may be best solution.
thanks all…

(Note: I am 100% unfamiliar with Apple products & systems.)
So if on a call you want to receive both the iPhone and iPad are going to ring… can you set the default ringtone on ONLY the iPad to be silence? Then when the iPhone rings you can answer either one?
Thx Warri, wish I could that’s what I wanted to do but apparently from what I can find out there’s no way to do that on the iPad. Not a big deal just a wished for….
Thanks
