Apple should buy Peloton

So says an analyst who I expect is very long on PTON.

Buy an overpriced treadmill machine?

  1. I don’t see the fit.
  2. I disagree.
  3. There are some ideas that are just plain NUTZ.

When a company has as ‘tons’ of cash “just sitting there”, sometimes they can make ill advised decisions.

I don’t think this is one Cook would make.

Better to spend it to bring all of the manufacturing back into the USA…

EXCEPT for the fact that APPL has decidedly been moving into health and wellness for quite some time. Apple Watch, various apps that track. This could be the next extension of that beyond “tracking” to actually providing a means to improve wellness (all tracked with apple devices…) Replace the Peloton screen with an iPad device, and away we go!

I’ve heard the “Apple should buy…” fantasy for many, many years. People even suggested that Apple could buy Disney (https://www.nasdaq.com/articles/could-apple-really-buy-disne…) or that Apple should have bought Tesla (https://www.cnbc.com/2021/11/24/cathie-wood-says-apple-shoul…).

It’s become a fetish. Apple should buy this or that company, replace whatever they have with an Apple developed interface, and boom, instant new market.

Those things never pan out, and sober minds usually come back with articles like this:

To quote: “But out of all the interested parties, Apple is the least likely to buy an expensive, money-losing company like Peloton.”

IMO, Apple shouldn’t bail out Peloton, which is really what such an “acquisition” would be.
