Apple's First 50 Years

Yup, Apple has been around since it’s founding on April 1, 1976. Not quite at 50 yet, but close enough apparently. Apple is celebrating:

There’s also a 608 pg. book about it by David Pogue:

I’ve been an Apple user, reseller, and developer since 1978 or 79. While Apple has become a better investment I’m starting to hate the Mac I used to love. The creative days of Job are long gone replaced by MBAs.

Apple’s been great for me, going back to my 1st Apple ][+ in theory '80s after a windfall, unexpected executor fee from my Dad’s estate, it was time to get aboard the Apple systems, followed by //r, //c, and even an Apple III for a little while, then on to Mac Plus, SE, LC, Performa, Mac Pro, iMacs, and now a MacBook Air 11" and a ini M2… Piced up some colorful iMacs cheap along the way put DVD drives in them, passed along to family…

My GD gave me her MacBook Pro, Mid 2012 she’d used in college, and just today found another earlier MB Pro in the garage, it has a hatch to swap the battery or SSD out, evidently I did replace the SSD years back, but both, after fiddling the evening away, have bad batteries, neither will take a charge, the Mid 2012 runs, in fact I did an OS security update on it, but if the charger is taken off it stops dead.. Not sure what to do with them, not sure what’s on the dead one’s HD, so hesitate to donate, SellYourMac/OWC does even want these elder ones, suggesting donating… I had already stripped the working Mid 2012 of all it’s data files, dropped screen shots of it’s member, storage info into Photos… A shame, but I can’t really justify putting in new batteries, $35 each via Amazon, they did their jobs at the time, I had notes in the original box of the early 2102 MB… Sad too is that both have Superdrives in them, no longer seen today… So back out in the garage I guess… I think there are a couple of to older white MacBooks out there too…

Looking back to this early days, I’d spent an awful lot of money, that last //e is in the garage with two Disk II drives, an amber monitor and a binder of 5-1/4 floppies of early software… My DD had used it for years before the Mac…

50 years a long time, for all of us, I guess! But, I did invest in AAPL in the '90s, so zero complaints…
