Definitely a guy. The “balked” response was in regards to something his wife said/did. IIRC, they later divorced.

Wasn’t either also his daughter or regarding the daughter? Divorce was predictable.
I remember hearing a piece of a conversation walking by a co-workers office. The comment he made was “We wouldn’t have a problem if she would do what I tell her.” Explained why he was in the middle of a divorce.
