For several years now I have relied on the reliability records of autos, as reported by CR readers. They are in the annual auto issue, which comes out each April.
Very useful. Quite detailed breakdown by brand, model, and problem spots of vehicles. With a final five levels of Best to Worst grade on overall score.
For some reason, CR has started omitting reports on the Toyota Sequoia SUV. The Tundra, the pickup built along the same frame lines, is still shown.
Queries to CR have gone unanswered. Can anyone suggest a clue or know why they are omitting the Sequoia? (IIRC, they left it out of the 2021 April issue, too.)
As the model is a very popular (and reliable) SUV , it is puzzling.
As an aside, I started to fill out their product reliability surveys one year and part way through they started asking for a lot of personal information, so I bailed.
Too few owners IS a normal criteria for leaving a model off the list, but the Sequoia is one of the top selling vehicles nationwide.
(It took some diligent and persistent effort just to order and take delivery of our 2021 model.)
When we took delivery of the new, salesmen spotted our 2006 model we drove to the dealership and asked if we wanted to sell it to them. (NO) It is a very popular vehicle.
CR has some hidden agenda, I think.
(A V-8 engine, they’re not known for great gas mileage. Only 15mpg overall, ~~~19-20mpg freeway driving. Super comfortable and roomy for long range trips. I’m thinking that folks at CR have got wild hairs stuck somewhere that clouds their objective thinking.)
