The news report i saw said storm assistance usually fades after a year or so but it takes years to recover. People are stressed. Their finances stretched. Those with limited resources likely to skip medical care. So death rates rise. Especially the elderly–those over 55 and infants.

Very interesting.
I have a new coffee shop. I do not like the Starbucks remodels. Neither does Howard Schultz.
The new coffee shop owner is in recovery. He described his hell during covid. He gained weight. He was an unemployed bartender. He drank his behind off while in lockdown. He fell apart mentally and ended up on meds and in AA. He is a nice guy but naive, yet not innocent.
I see him relapsing. He is now a bigshot expanding his coffee shop empire and not getting to meetings. If he relapses that would be horrible. He does not see himself yet for who he is.
The pandemic took at least a decade off his life. If he drinks again it might kill him.
The dice were loaded years before.
I kept my opinions to myself. He has to be who he is.

The linked map is TODAY Oct 13, 2024 satellite data of flaming locations.
But right now, it’s “blame it on hurricane” season? Sarcasm.

Ralph,
Nice catch

Meetings are not everything. I found that hsnging out with a bunch of alcoholics made me want to drink. For some folks, its good to just get back to regular life.
Different things work for different folks.
Meetings are not everything.
But for most alcoholics there is no substitute.
