My guess is that the U.S. has normalized hundreds of thousands of COVID deaths, dozens of mass murders annually and a substandard for-profit healthcare system for the same reason- millions of citizens who no longer recognize the value of pulling together and making sacrifices for the common good.
Your post isn’t political so I won’t FA it.
But how does this help us invest? Please remember that METAR is an investment board.

Ok. I am living and investing with the assumption that we are normalizing COVID and lower life expectancies, increased demand for medical services, perhaps higher salaries for professions being stressed, and continued pressure on the airlines and cruises.
I kept my blend etf, Vig and my smaller tech and growth etfs and plan to average down into my tech etfs with additional shares on the theory that we will continue to become increasingly dependent upon technology, but I traded in my healthcare etf last fall and replaced it with a financials etf because I believe we will continue to solve our COVID uncertainties with accommodative monetary policies rather than pull together and defeat the disease.
At least until we reach the point that inflation has gotten out of control. Like the forest fires out west, we will get serious about COVID after millions have died - or not at all.

Things tend not to be problems until they affect wealthy elites. I agree that 300,000 to 400,000 COVID deaths per year are totally manageable are long as the elites are isolated from it.
It’s was heartwarming how drug addiction became an illness rather than a moral failing once it started to affect more wealthy people.

The extreme METARish theme somewhat hidden in the OP of this thread is
So, (almost) never mind inflation (I remain a skeptic about a neat term recurrence of systemic hard to kill inflation of the sort that significantally changed investment and savings levels and algorithms in the 1970’s into 80’s); the USA real big investment danger is a potential collapse of patriotic ethical civic norms of behavior in business, government, and even religion, as such a collapse means the end of rule of law, stability of governance, and provision of significant privacy and legal safety in body and property.
We have some real troublesome problems that threaten the civilized norms that are foundational to everything. I pay attention to this blunt fact here at METAR, but I discuss whys and how to fix and etc on other boards.
