Yes, am a long time Costco Member, a couple are about 9 miles N or S of us, so if I need gas, they are the next trip… I pick up GK after school on Wednesdays, so if I’m down to 1/4 tank I fill up…
I did peruse that very page earlier today, don’t see Nest amongst the choices and moved on… Then off shopping, then a nap, still no decision, and I still haven’t checked if it’s merely a broken wire on the current button… So no decision so far…
A ton of articles, I’m quizzing my local Mac User Group on FB, now, to see what maybe someone there has been happy with…
I came to this Logitech’s Circle View doorbell camera as my choice, and have various options for purchase, all the same price, $199… Amazon, Apple Store…
Then I took my old button off to see if a wire had broken… Nope, but when I removed the 2nd screw I heard a click, and it lit up! Rang the doorbell! Fixed! Replaced the screws, it still works… PFM!
So now back to whether I NEED to replace it, or just wait a while… Will see how DW, my CFO reacts…
It dropped to $189, and the existing one messed up again, so I jumped on it…
Setup begins on the desk, plug in a usb cable for power, Home app (iPhone) scans the QR code, it blinks, connects, is happy.
Next up is the moving of wires, adding an adjunct onto the existing chime… Came across a diode across my existing pushbutton, have to see if that’s a problem when I get to wiring it… It is used with electronic chimes to get power past the pressing so it can continue it’s tune, it turns out… So we’ll see if it is an issue… The unit comes with a small adapter box, will see what work…
Found this sketch, explains why the diode, naturally a YouTuber did this… https://ibb.co/z5HZCwk
As simple as it is, there’s still a lot of bits n pieces… But no rush…
Well, here it is, 3 years later, I stumbled on this old thread… Logitech Circle View Doorbell Camera is working fine, but occasionally the actual doorbell ringing quits working. The Notofications, videos continue, but not the actual doorbell… And in the meantime, we upgraded our heating systems to add A/C, and as part of the process, my guy relocated the doorbell transformer, which powers the Logitech, into the Attic! So to reset it I have to flip the breaker, then all is well again… Have looked at adding an additional camera or two, but haven’t made that move yet, likely stick with Logitech as O know they are solid with our HomeKit… An AppleTV widget is the handler for the HomeKit…
I’ve had this one for a year and a half and I’m happy with it. Separate chime included that rings in the house. Hooked to both my and wife’s iPhone, as well as my iwatch. I have it side-looking so no false alarms, EXCEPT around sunset. It sometimes triggers then. I’m thinking maybe it’s auto adjusting based on light levels which sets it off. Maybe. It only happens sometimes, not every day, so it’s only slightly annoying.
Well, sadly I’m back, chasing a replacement for the Logitech above. It has been apparently overheating, going blurry for no known reason, and the indoor chime stops working, so some missed visitors.. Resetting it via the breaker gets it going again, but I’m growing weary of chasing its problems. Amazon no longer carries it, I suspect Logitech discontinued it.
I like that it ties to my Apple HomeKit, means I can ‘see’ it wherever I am… Found an Aqara, but reading its review, not any better than the Logitech.. There must be a better option… The Reolink above seems like a maybe, then I see there is a newer version, but it has no chime, not clear what that solution would be…
