People just got used to big grocers selling them at a loss to get people in the door.
Prior to the COVID pandemic, I never paid more than 99 cents for a dozen eggs, and at least once a month, I got them for 49 cents a dozen or FREE from at least one of the three large supermarkets within my 3 mile walking distance radius.
The last dozen I bought “on sale” was $5.45 for the first 2, then the regular price was $8.60.
And as the daily media hysteria about the “egg crisis” grows louder and louder, someone in the cheap seats says “if you don’t like the price, don’t buy them. it’s not like eating fried eggs every day is particularly good for you”
I paid $1.99/doz today, but there was a limit of 4 dozen. I eat at least 4 eggs a day, and between that, cooking, and baking, our household goes through a few dozen a week. Lately I’ve been buying the boxes of 60, but those don’t fit well in my fridge and I prefer the boxes of 18. I’ve saved a few containers to transfer the box of 60 into to make fitting in the fridge easier.
I don’t know. For the past 40 years I’ve started the day with bacon, sausage, eggs, and chocolate donuts. And I’m still the same weight I was in college.
lol, I’m not accepting that the price of eggs will remain high.
I watched a guy on the campaign trail state that he would easily bring the price of eggs, the price of all groceries, down. And he said it wouldn’t even be hard to do.
So as far as I’m concerned, the clock is ticking.
Re: price of eggs, 2 months ago claims and promises
A big chuck of the USA electorate is about to join multiple laborers, contractors, and “handshake deal” buddies in discovering the apparent total insincerity of the man in question.
No explanation of climate change caused chickens to catch germs but they had to just say out loud anyway I guess. Also, it was noted some years ago during a Bird flu event that migrations patterns don;t spread it as they are north to south ergo no, migration doesn’t cause it to spread. That was promptly stuffed into the memory hole. More media & business Psyops.
I pay $5/dozen for local fee range eggs. Expensive, but the eggs are very large, with thick rich deep yellow yolks. I am willing to pay a little extra for good local food.
