The EU has passed a law that will require Apple to Adopt the USB-C as it’s standard charging port. Apple could simply abandon the port and go with magnetic charging instead. However, that would create problems with CarPlay, and wireless syncing is less reliable in my experience. We should probably know when the next iOS devices roll out.
Here come more adapters! I’ve already gone to a wireless jobber so I don’t have to plug in to link CarPlay to a new Alpine head unit in my PU… one less cord, unless I need to charge on the road, but other USB 12v adapters already fixed that in PU, RV…
Interesting that the EU even mucked about with any manufacturer’s hardware…
I believe the reason that the EU adopted this new law was to reduce the amount of trash that accumulates when tech companies decide on their own to go non-standard. By forcing all vendors to use the same standard - and stick to it - that reduces the amount of waste that gets dumped in landfills.

I look around and over the years, so many different “Standards”, i have recycled all my old SCSI cables, I had a flip top bin of 'em… But other bins are still here, Video/Coax, USB, Telecom, RJ45, Audio, much less all the spools of wire from 30 ga to 4/) welding cables and the strippers, crimpers and other tools to terminate the ends, no Amphenol connector tools, but crimpers, solder splices, lugs, terminals for all of 'em… and I’m only one of many, many retired guys who installed, used, either at work or as a hobby that collected, saved all this stuff. An old friend has his collection of avionic connectors, cables, wiring… They won’t end up in the landfill/garbage side, more likely a few trips to the smelter or recycle side… Hard to imagine the dollar value when purchased, painful to think of it being melted down… One day, someone will have to deal with it all…
Workdays, we’d bag or bundle or fill Gaylord bins, send all the scrap wire back to the smelters, and it likely made another product later on…
Crazy times…
