EV incentives end 9/30, but Energy Efficency Refunds live on (except in South Dakota)

The Federal program that provides Americans with up to $14,000 in point of purchase rebates for items like a heat pump HVAC system, heat pump water heater, power panel and home wiring upgrades to handle the increased load, and home insulation and weatherizing was beyond DOGE’s grasp.

Tax savvy residents of every state but South Dakota can still bask in the glow of up to $14,000 worth of 100% Gov’t paid energy efficiency.

South Dakota residents got what they voted for extremely good, and unusually hard.

Here’s what’s available in Washington State where science and arithmetic informs state policy.

“Himself” is moving to kill the “Energy Star” program, in his continuing program to increase USian energy consumption. Do those rebate programs require installation of “Energy Star” rated appliances? If so, with no “Energy Star” program, there are no products that qualify for rebates.

No. You have to have a state-approved, home energy efficiency surveyor do an audit of your home and calculate the energy savings of the project. You’ll probably want to buy a heat pump hvac system with the maximum SEER2 rating.

Also the way the Energy Star ratings work is that manufacturers submit new equipment models to the Gov’t to get a rating. They can’t repeal Energy Star ratings for the equipment already on the shelf and in the supply chain. Stopping the program would only prevent new models from being Energy Star certified.
