I used intel and cisco as examples, because they were multi-hundred percent growers for years. First movers and dominant players. For AOL and other “E-companies”, they were inventing new metrics like “dollars per eyeball” to justify continued price appreciation, but INTC and CSCO were the picks and shovels play in the internet. Same with several others i owned. Nobody built into the E-commerce world without spending money with them. Same with AMAT in chips. Everything I and my investing friends could find AT THE TIME kept the notion alive that they would keep going, even through an economic downturn. Tight economy means you want money-saving technologies, right? Everyone around me knew those were part of the new “Nifty Fifty” that would never disappoint, and they never did disappoint 1992-1999. Hi tech was the new miracle. Then it all rolled over in a short period, and only then did all the reasons become known. After the biggies got out.
That said, again, I am here because the analysis I read here for a cheap price seems superior to the analysis I paid big money for back then, and with less economic self-interest. I would like to learn how to do growth the right way, correctly identifying the sharp positive sigmoid infection point to get in, then the negative inflection (slower growth) to get out. All that with more caution and a limited percentage of my pile. If what I learn here works, it will become a larger percentage.
Good to read your message with good thoughts and see CSCO!!!..which I have owned for a long time.
I sold some ZS before it went down last week…but still own some.
I have learned A LOT on this website…and am VERY GRATEFUL to SAUL and others…but still keep a portfolio, which includes longtime holds…like CSCO, SYK and MSFT! Dividends are nice, too, especially in down markets.
Thank you for reminding me about Andy Grove and John Chambers. I followed Chambers and owned CSCO stock from $9 to $81 to $36 (I sold) and the stock went to less than $10!
On Sept 26th, I replied to you with the following admonition:

In his Monday morning rules, Saul specifically requests,
“No cluttering up the board with one-line, meaningless posts”
He also states,
“Ask yourself if your post is adding anything of value to the discussion.”
I respectfully ask you to run your future posts through these two filters before hitting the submit button. Imagine how cluttered the board would become if everyone posted little missives like these.
Another helpful reference is this post written to you in the past regarding this exact topic:
Thanks very much in advance. Please no further replies to this thread.

You continue to break Saul’s rules with your silly/meaningless posts. This time, you’ve even taken it a step further by adding some ultracool ALL CAPS.
PLEASE STOP THE SILLY MEANINGLESS POSTS (see what I did there ??)
