Amid global alarm, top administration officials sought to soften elements of President Trump’s proposal to force Palestinians out of the territory and take it over. Experts said the plan would violate international law.
Speaking to reporters in Guatemala, Secretary of State Marco Rubio twice suggested that Mr. Trump was only proposing to clear out and rebuild Gaza, not claim indefinite possession of the territory. Steve Witkoff, the special envoy to the Middle East, told Republican senators at a closed-door luncheon that Mr. Trump “doesn’t want to put any U.S. troops on the ground, and he doesn’t want to spend any U.S. dollars at all” on Gaza, according to Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri.
And at the White House, the press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, said “the president has not committed to putting boots on the ground in Gaza,” though she did not specify how the United States could take control of the territory without using military force.
The Gaza proposal, which Mr. Trump unveiled on Tuesday during a visit by Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, to the White House, upended decades of international diplomacy and opened a geopolitical Pandora’s box with far-reaching implications for the Middle East. Most immediately, it complicated talks about extending a fragile cease-fire between Israel and Hamas; placed Egypt and Jordan in an impossible position; and threatened the U.S. ambition for normalized diplomatic relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia.
In a statement issued before 4 a.m. local time, Saudi Arabia expressed its “unequivocal rejection” of attempts to displace Palestinians and reiterated that it would not establish diplomatic ties with Israel in the absence of an independent Palestinian state. Egypt’s foreign ministry said that aid and recovery programs for Gaza would have to begin “without the Palestinians leaving.” And King Abdullah II of Jordan, in a meeting with the head of the Palestinian Authority on Wednesday, rejected any attempt to displace Palestinians and annex their land.
Why did the Republicans want to let this lawless creep and his creeper friends start to dismantle our constitution and government. These people do not read the constitution or follow laws.
There were a lot of clips on a piece on TYT. Lots of media talking heads and water carriers trying to explain this away with words to the effect “it’s only a bargaining tactic”, “that isn’t what he said”, “that isn’t what he meant”, “well, the world would be a better place”. Yeah. Sure.
Here is a great proposal: Move the Gazans and all Palestinians to the US. They might not want to leave of course. Who would want to leave their homeland willingly? Israel has been unable to push them out even by excessive force.
Since the US will help Israel unconditionally and force has not worked, another way should be found. So why not welcome all Palestinian into the US? Why don’t you put that great proposal on the table, Donald?
You would certainly agree that the US is the greatest country in the world, and that would be an offer they can’t refuse, right!? Don?
There were people on Amanour tonight from the Pal Authority, Saudi, and another guy. All agreed this proposal is a non-starter. But, TI apparently thinks he is the world’s best negotiator, and everyone else is as transactional as he is. If that is the case, his negotiating tactic would probably be to say to the Saudis and Qataries “what would it take, for you to sell out the Pals?” Sticks in my mind that Kushner did some deal, on the last go around, that completely ignored the Pals.
Of course, he could embrace Kushner’s disposal idea: put all the Gaza Pals in a concentration camp in the Negev. Then the US can ride it’s high moral horse, and say to Jordan and Egypt “it’s all your fault they are in a concentration camp, because you would not let them in to your countries”.
They discussed my proposal!? In the minds of Americans, offering them to come here is an offer they can’t refuse. Even more so to the Don, no? So he needs not to be so much an excellent negotiator. It is just a beautiful plan: Move the Palestinians here to the USA!
No. you mean the current proposal by POTUS: trying to force others what you want them to do.
Do you really think that is a real proposal or just to make the uncritical press to run after his declarations like headless chickens, and to make news? So easy, and then what does he really do?
The proposal is an “arty” real estate deal. It is not new. First son in law, was talking about it months ago. I think the proposal is real, because it would put a lot of money in the pocket of someone who fancies himself a real estate baron.
Keep in mind, we are dealing with “JCs”. The Pals, and the US troops being volunteered to clear the UXBs, are regarded the same way USian civilian employees are: expendable meat, whose only purpose is to make the “JCs” richer.
“Gaza has been severely damaged…billions of dollars are going to be required for reconstruction, are enormous…”
“So what The President, President Trump, announced yesterday was the offer, the willingness of the United States to become responsible for the reconstruction of that area.”
Ethnic cleansing and displacing people here and there are something that the US is very experienced at.
The trail of tears…etc…
But the funny thing is that Israel sees Gaza (and the West Bank) as its territory. The US will control Gaza? I don’t think Israel would be too happy about that either.
Reportedly, King Abdullah was humiliated by TI saying, during their joint appearance with the press, that he has no intention of paying anything for Gaza, but simply take it. Now, el Sisi says he isn’t coming to DC, because he refuses to be a party to TI’s plan.
Trump is a liar and an idiot. He proposes stuff with out any plans or any thought of the people involved and what they want.
For example:
Did Trump ask the Palestinians if the want to leave Gaza? NO
Did Trump have a plan for Gaza? NO
Did Trump think think that it is OK for USA to take Palestinian land (Gaza) and throw out the 2 million people? Yes
Did Trump ask Egypt, Jordan and other Arab countries to agree to this concept before telling the world what he wanted? NO
Did Trump commit to spending $100 billion US Taxpayer money to rebuild Gaza? NO
Did Trump commit to spend another $100 billion US taxpayer money to build new housing for 2 million Gaza people in Egypt and Jordan? NO
