Having had a catalytic converter stolen, I hope the whole network is crushed with fines and restitution

As an owner of a new-to-me Prius in 2023, happy to hear this news. I know a co-worker who was down in SoCal earlier in the year, and had their catalytic convertor stolen. He had a cage installed when the replacement convertor was installed.

Those cages amuse me. If the perp can cut through a stainless steel exhaust system, why would anyone think a cage would stop him?

It’s not meant to stop him, it’s meant to slow him down. That way he will choose the car parked next to it instead. They want to get in and out in minimum time.

I thought I remember it being Toyota’s fault for making them too easy to steal…

I have hated having to go to my mechanic and study where his car cage is in case I need to leave my car overnight.

A pox on people who make me watch my step.

But many boats do - just sayin’

I live in California and it has been really crazy. My neighbour had his converter stolen from his van in a parking lot in broad daylight. His brother and daughter had theirs stolen off the cars parked in their driveways. As did another friend’s son. Every one you talk to knows 1-2 people who have had theirs stolen.

But it’s hard to go under the water and torch it off to steal it!

(obviously I’m kidding for the humor-impaired)

Fair point. But, they could sink your boat attempting to do it
