Humanoid Robots are coming

It seems extremely likely that, at some point, general purpose, humanoid robots for use in the home, will be available.
Musk reportedly says that all the technology has already been developed. All that remains is to combine them into an economically viable robot, that can survive in an environment created for human comfort.

Does it seem increasingly likely that general purpose, humanoid robots will become available in our lifetimes?

Tesla is set to unvail Optimus, it’s general purpose, humanoid robot at the upcoming AI day (Sep 30, 2022?).

Robots are reshaping our daily lives even though right now, most are highly specialized per task.
There have been significant resources dedicated to developing more flexible, general purpose, humanoid robots.

This Reuters article describes some of those efforts.

I have a robot in my pants that is a sentient life form.

Depends on how old you are. Teenagers will certainly see them.

The Captain

Robots schmobots.

I’m not even sure we’ll know when super-intelligent AI takes over. And it will be too late to do anything about it once we do recognize it.

Have a good day everyone.

I think the greatest chance of success would be for a designer to build a humanoid robot for a specific, rather than general purpose.

The aging of society will bring a cascade of millions of people who need help to get out of bed. Many people are heavy and difficult to lift by a human caregiver. Building a lift robot would play to the high strength of robots compared with people. This would be a challenging application because the robot would need to be able to lift a frail person from a soft surface without doing damage. The customer base would be nursing homes and individuals who want to age in their own homes but need mobility assistance.

The Japanese, with the fastest-aging society in the world, are already building robots to interact with the elderly and to assist caretakers (a robotic back support).
