Over the years, before moving to the new Mini-Pro and Ventura OS, I had created various Filemaker lists, inventories, address lists, handy as they could be formatted in various ways for labels, envelopes, etc…
No I find my old FileMaker .fp7 files are not openable by anything I have in this Ventura OS. That old version of Filemaker was 32 bit, was not migrated over when I moved over…
Nothing vital, just history of the old inventory files, lists, be nice to shuffle them into an Excel file, just for reference, curiosity…
So far no luck, the current FileMaker has gone to subscription mode, way overpriced for my needs…
Has anyone found, or used another application or tool to convert, save old .fp7 files??
Might, IF the files were on my iPhone, but they are all on my Mac… And then I read this:
What are the requirements for FileMaker Go 19?
FileMaker Go 19 is compatible with iOS devices running iOS 15 minimum. FileMaker Pro is required to create or to modify custom apps. Custom apps cannot be created or modified with FileMaker Go. Custom apps created using FileMaker Pro 12 and later can be opened and shared with FileMaker Go 19.
So then we’re back to their subscription plan, for the OS version… IF one had FM19, then the FM Go 19 is a freebie…
You can transfer files back and forth from phone to mac any number of ways. But if you need to have the subscription to modify the file, then the app’s of no (free) help.
It likely would, I still have my old Mac Pro, it runs Mojave and I think the old FM 7 on it, but it been disconnected a while, will have to see if I can fire it up, maybe deal with the files there, bring 'em over, maybe memory stick, just been hoping for something like a simple reader… Will check it out later… Coffee! Need coffee!!
Tried it, it does see the contents, but in Hex /text in .fp7’s format, which gets nowhere… Word used to be able to do that, but all the data is useless…
Update: Solved, I have FileMaker 9 Pro still on the old 2012 Mac Pro, so fired it up, Exported the files in .csv format, where they open right up in Excel or Numbers… When I chase things down, there were only a couple files I was concerned with, so now all the data can to fiddled with in Excel, or Numbers and that’s all wanted to be sure I could do… Pretty simple to Export, I find it rather crazy of Claris to not have a simple extraction tool, not everyone needs a corporate level app for this simple stuff…
FM9 was apparently confused, refused to open one of the files, saying it was already Open, when it wasn’t. It also crashed once, and I’d forgotten how slow the old Mac Pro, on a spinner HD is… But in the end it worked well enough to recover the old files…
Mission accomplished! Better keep one of the old beasts running! Maybe see if FM9 will run on a 2012 MacBook Pro… Be handier…
