Now that the stock has dropped a fair bit, there is a multitude of negative comments on holding too much of the stock or on the U.S. itself. Where were these comments when brk. was setting new highs earlier in the year?

I can’t speak for others, but the two are entirely different subjects.
Obviously, if one is happy to hold BRK at all (or any other stock), it’s most attractive when it’s cheap.
Higher upside, lower downside.

There different aspects to life and investments. If I have to make a decision now of holding BRK shares or not for the next 5-10 years, I would buy a lot more. But I know there are economic and political turmoil in the country and the world. And based on past experiences, the turmoil has just started and I don’t feel it has reached the panic phase. I also know I could miss the boat.

What?

Old dealraker, longest owner of Berk on this board, has been very steady and consistent on his “it ain’t Buffett’s company going forward” and “I’d suggest not making Berkshire too big of your portfolio.” I beleive if you look I may have been stating my opinion on the matter for years.

Maybe the question is: “Why am I just acknowledging this?” My guess? Because the stock price has gone down.

Anyway, over the long run, it is better to buy stocks when the prices are lower than when they are higher. Emotions, problems, catapults, downdrafts, over-the-bars crashes, and fear are always in the future all while we boast of when and what we bought…that later of course goes down with everything else.

Life is great…if you can stand it!
