Wendy, Denny’s OP really should be FA’d it is pure politics.
Paraphrasing from the videos first lines, ‘people in DC have no ideas how people live in Kansas at all’, then he discusses a lack of prosperity.
The constant droning from there…he never mentions that in Kansas’s ignorance minimum wage is $7.25 in 2017 when this was videoed. Today 2022 Kansas has a minimum wage of $7.25. He is currently droning on about student loan debt.
My own take
We have a class of businesspeople that are not actually successful. Yes some have powerful long resumes. But the business cycle damns most of them at some point, or their habits ie gambling drinking whatever damns their fortunes. All too human. Their dreams are powerful in our decision making. In the 1990s this group bought into Wall Street but not into any of their own talents to manage their own money. Yet most of these folks bought equities and had a taste of success.
Staying up late nights worrying, this group is making decisions purely as the ME generation. It is a very vacuous state of being. It is not right nor left. It is failure whether the money has survived or not the individual choices.
It is my crazy uncle at Thanksgiving. The family at this point really does not want him at the table. We are sick of his ugly me me me.
Just ending my /rant the video was made in 2017. It is not reality based today.

Our minimum wage may be the same, but it takes a lot more than that to hire anybody here.
All of the fast-food places have large posters and signs advertising starting wages from $10 to $15. Manufacturing plants are advertising $17 starting pay.
I’m so glad to be retired and away from managing a shop.

Wendy, I enjoy the board and appreciate your efforts to keep politics off of it. This is from someone who is very political but realizes there are plenty of other boards to discuss politics. Thanks.

When I was in Texas in the 1980s there was one wage for whites that was much higher starting out. There was a basement wage for minorities and women.
I do not trust people with these decisions at all. If minimum de facto is no longer $7.25 why keep it there legally? Because shafting someone else is a big part of American culture. We have a long history of being “users”. That goes way beyond any definition of capitalism. That is exactly why I called it ignorance.

So, you propose that a post that links to another board and describes itself as unsuitable for our board should be censored?
Surely the place to respond to that post is on the board it links to?
And of course, don’t go there if you don’t want to view the opinions therein.

While I palmed it off as politics my real objection is to how out of date and stupid the video was. I guess we can not expect moderation on that and just have to call it out. Excuse my detour into complaining about politics.

A bare link to a different board does not violate the no-politics rule on METAR. That’s why I didn’t FA it.
All responses to the post should be made on the other board, not on METAR.
