Was that in the second round Nepo-draft?
Yep. Bronny James was selected in the 2nd round at #55 in the 58 slot draft.

LeBron James opted into a 2-year, $104 million dollar contract.
Good work if you can get it.
At 39, he already played 21 regular season and then most of those years in playoffs, which should equal to another 3.5 season. After all those years, mileage, (yeah playing NBA means traveling a lot, 50,000 miles per regular season), this disrupts their ability to sleep, rest, etc. he still keeps himself at the top fitness and play the game at such a high level.
Don’t dismiss that as a freak of nature. He nurtured his talent, body and mind. I wish the kids who watch these games pick up the work ethics, discipline of these stars. Success at these levels are not easily earned.
Probably a smart move to keep LJ around. On the other hand - Bronny’s rookie contract stanks of nepotiz.
Yeah, but think of all the publicity. When you are a “celeb”, publicity is the only thing that matters. Do you think the White Sox thought Bo Jackson would improve the team’s play, after his hip surgery? I doubt it. But they mined his being on the team like crazy. Pitched season tix to Sox games as “the hip ticket”. The Sox had a TV commercial that year, with Jackson on a table in what was supposed to be a fluoroscope. The fluoroscope screen showed a Rube Goldberg machine running in his hip. Then the machine jammed, until Bo hit his hip with his fist. Then the machine resumed running.
Much of what is passed off as “news” these days is publicity. Really look at what the “news”, especially local “news”, is passing off. A lot of it is advertising so blatant that I wonder how much the station charges for publicity pieces like that.
Steve
That’s fair, it’s not like the Lakers won’t make money off the NBA’s first ever father-son playing for the same team.
They got him with the 55th pick, which is almost last place in the draft. You’re taking a flyer on anybody that late. But they got to lock in LeBron on a new contract and they are paying Bronny chump change.
…and as hard as it is for us ancients of days to adjust, the world brought to us by miraculous worldwide intercommunication across via sight sound is no longer about competence, knowledge, intelligence, money value…; all is now inferior to “likes” and even more powerful “looks”.
Wheeeeeeee!

Same as it ever was, me thinks. At one time Anna Kournikova was the highest paid female athlete in the world. She was never even the best female athlete in her sport.
I remember Anna, lol. She dated Red Wing star Sergei Federov for awhile. When she attended games, the TV cameras found her ( understatement, lol ).
When she was probably 15, she played in a minor-league pro event in Midland, Mi ( Dow sponsored, I think ). I think she won this tournament, and they shattered attendance and ticket sales records. I remember reading that tourney officials stated they had never seen more teen boys at this event, lol.
If I remember right, she was a legit tennis pro, but never close to the top players.
I’ll admit, my Nuggets fan bias may be impacting my feelings.
This is bad for Affirmative Action – it takes a seat at the end of the bench from a white guy.
