Why would you think [Musk and his team of recent graduates] would uncover anything more substantial than what Inspector Generals - people trained to find such - from both parties over the last 20 years didn’t uncover?
You realize that there is a fresh set of eyes every few years by design, right?
How about this, let me use my fresh set of eyes and treat your next patient. You know, because you might have biases because of all your years of experience and I won’t since I have never treated a patient.
In reply to myself, I am again reminded of this phenomena of elevating the uninformed, untrained and uneducated to positions of authority and expertise because we have somehow come to disbelieve science, knowledge, and experience.
I remember watching that movie years ago. Who knew it was a documentary.
But then, keep in mind a second rate actor said the cost of his “JC” skewed tax cuts would be made up by eliminating “waste, fraud, and abuse”. “Eliminating fraud” has been a popular excuse, for a long time.
A hypothetical: Imagine the loot the government would not pay out, if 20% of Social Security recipients could not prove they are citizens entitled to payments, The DOGErs would claim all those people were guilty of fraud. They were actually guilty of not being meticulous, all their life, about records retention, but they go in the books as “fraud”.
I think fraud is most likely fraudulent disability claims. I think they are careful about qualifying people for retirement payments. Of course some borrow other peoples Social Security number and maybe impersonate them to collect their payments.
Considering the number of ads I see on TV, for lawyers offering to push through disability claims, there must be a market for their service, so there must be some hoops to jump through to make a disability claim stick.
I didn’t have much of a hoop to jump through. I mosied down to the SS office, had a brief interview, and the money started flowing. Being already on SS, when I turned 65, I did nothing to enroll in Medicare. Enrollment was automatic, and the card arrived in the mail.
So in other words, you can’t answer or refuse the answer the question. There was no projection in my question.
You stated, “I wonder what Musk … will reveal?”
The clear an unambiguous implication that he will find something that all the other career professionals not only from both parties but some that were appointed by Trump, did not.
You can try to run and hide from your own implication, but it is obvious.
You definitely do have to file paperwork to begin collecting Social Security. They do need your SS Number and to find that you have paid in. You need a minimum of 40 quarters to qualify.
Do you have to show an ID? Can you change the address for your payment? If direct payment to your bank account, does the account have to be in your name? Can you open a bank account without showing an ID?
Pros may know how to defraud the system but for many of us the paperwork is frustrating. Maybe they are just being careful.
Identity theft does happen. Certainly they are careful about it when it comes to tax refunds. But some do find someone else got theirs.
SpaceX employs, as you stated, engineers. People with training and experience - the best in their field. I fully support SpaceX and believe in it. Thanks for asking!!
This isn’t a comparison between Boeing and SpaceX.
This is a comparison between trained and largely unbiased group of professionals from both parties with years of experience, and, as I stated, a recent high school graduate.
By contrast, asking someone with no prior experience to audit a multi-trillion dollar payment system would be like asking me to design the next SpaceX rocket.
It was nine years ago. I really don’t remember much. I knew from the annual mailing from SS that I had more than enough years paying in to qualify for benefits. I think I applied on their web site. I do remember that direct deposit was mandatory, so I brought my bank account information, as well as ID, to the interview.
