*installed all new updates for watch, phone and MBPro… usage of battery way too fast and a lot especially on watch and iPhone since installation. Anyone else experiencing this? My watch went from 80 battery this morning to 30% in just a couple of hours - Yikes!
Rebooting may help for all devices. In terms of total battery life just rebooting a watch takes a significant amount of power. It is also possible that with the new OS, new versions of multiple Watch applications would have to be downloaded and installed. I would not be concerned with the power usage you observed unless it happens after you have rebooted and recharged the watch again.
Initial loads of new OS’s eat a bit more than normal use as it settles in, indexing files for the long run, maybe even cleanups in the background…
Haven’t done my watch yet, too old, but we’re headed to the Apple Store as soon as the new ones are in… We’re overdue… I wanted the oxy sensing, but apparently it’s still tied up in litigation…
patience…
For sure the new regular watches don’t have Blood Oxygen sensor as I understand things. The Ultra 2 watch except for bands is reported to be identical to last year. I have the Ultra and really like it. The other side is undoubtedly a new version of Ultra will come out in 2025.
rebooting now and recharging both, wil see if make any difference.
Maybe you can get Oxygen with this one also:
Gordon, that seems help - rebooted both phone and watch . More sensible battery usage percentage showing now. Will continue to monitor. Thx
Sadly, in everything I find, so far, zero mention of the oxy monitor on the new watch, and if sold after January 24th, 2024, it’s been disabled, at least until the legalities are finished… Not a deal breaker, just too bad it’s that messed up, legally…
Well, after chasing a story on the possibility of buying the new watches in Canada to get the Oxy sensing, it turns out Apple.ca cannot, will not, ship to the US. Never mind, unless we went on vacation, not an option for now…
Then a Forbes article seems to confirm that the hardware is in the Watch 10s, just waiting on the settlement of the litigation, and the complainant has left, so new management, new chances for licensing, etc…
We happened to come close to the Apple store earlier, jumped on new Watch 10s, Titaniums, both, we just won’t activate the cellular, see how it goes… AppleCare+, but they didn’t have them in stock, so had to order both, so we wait a bit more, traded in my 5, DW’s 6, for $70 & $85 respectively… Helps a little, covers the AppleCare+ almost… A last minute decision to go titanium, figured 'why not!
weco
I like the idea of titanium, but I can’t justify spending $828 (46mm watch + applecare) on a watch that will last me about 3 years (my watch 7 has lasted 3 years so far, but needs to be charged twice a day now instead of once a day). If it were closer to 10 years, I could probably justify it.
It was on a whim, my wife wanted to titanium, I had set up on the Apple Store site to buy the black aluminum, but as we were at the Store, I up-selled myself to the titanium… I’d as soon it didn’t have cellular, but if I don’t activate it, no monthly fees from VZ…
Just learned all my earlier watchbands will fit the new one, I have a magnetic gray/orange on my 5, so I may just move it to the nw watch 10… Not clear if the band or the watch made mine ship a week later than my wife’s…
We’ll be in Canada later this month. Do the Canadian watches actually have a functioning oximeter?
From what I read, yes…But, apparently, if they are updated here in the US, the oximeter app will be disabled, so it appears the hardware is there, but it’s the software app that is in dispute here in the US… So a gamble, hopefully resolved soon… We took the bet, will be watching… I think it was a Forbes article where I read a bit more on the lawsuit… Cannot find it now…
Another Update! A minor one, but maybe needed…
Also WatchOS update as well…
Oh, and one more!
