Seems that, if Mexico and Canada impose steep tariffs on Chinese goods, the US may forego some or all of the tariffs on Mexican and Canadian goods.
Also on Sunday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told CBS News’ Margaret Brennan that Mexico has offered to match the United States with tariffs on China, and if Canada does the same, “that would be a very good start.”
And yet - we’re starting “an investigation” (on national security grounds because of, uh, the military?) into Canadian lumber and whether there should be an additional tariff placed on that.
I recall how housing prices skyrocketed when lumber prices went up during the pandemic. Expect more of the same, I’d guess.
