The irony of US charging 20% fee to keep the strait open as “protection” fee so that Iran cannot charge few $ as strait pass through fee… only the West, US can say this with straight face!![]()

If the Strait requires additional resources for protection, asking users to help defray that cost is not unreasonable.
And perhaps those fees make investments in pipelines and alternative ports more attractive.
Yes it is. We did not charge cargo that travelled near Somalia when were interdicting pirates.
We don’t charge fees when the Coast Guard rescues people at sea. We made this mess, perhaps we should be the one paying the fees.
Besides, the admin has now backed off this ridiculous tactic. If it was such a good idea, it would have likely lasted more than 48 hours.
By now afternoon news is that the prez has dropped the fee charge idea and instead will ask gulf nations to invest in USA.
Was it a trial balloon all along? Or did someone change his mind?
Why we are ascribing some “smartness” whenever this administration has to change every wrong decisions???
I think there is significant body of evidence to assume the simple fact, “they don’t know what they were doing in the first place”.
Let us not forget strait was open, and no one was paying any extra “fees” to anyone before US-Israel launched the war on Iran.
The war has established the “need” for alternate solutions. That is going to happen irrespective of us charging any fees.
While some folks cheer US being opportunistic, folks failing to recognize the long-term impact. The risk of US looking no different than any mercenaries is a shame for a 250 yr old democracy.
Well, why the heck does the straight now need additional protection???
Good grief
