As someone who is fairly new to the world of investing (about two years in) and who is also relatively young in the grand scheme of things (22 years) I have been very hesitant to invest in any stocks that have not been officially recommended by either SA or RB.
I’m not quite sure why this is. I think there is just something inherently reassuring (to me at least!) about knowing a rec comes from a paid service - as a result, despite Saul’s fantastic track record I have sat by on the sidelines of many of his recent picks for far too long and watched all of my fellow board followers (Saul-ians? Saul-ites?) enjoy their marvelous gains.
After seeing SYNA pop up in After Hours trading yesterday because of the news of their acquisition, I decided it was finally time to bite the bullet and purchase a starter position. It may be a bit richly valued at the moment (historically speaking), so if I am lucky I will have an opportunity to add at a lower price or better value point. Given the acceleration of growth and increased guidance, this seems somewhat unlikely and I may also add a bit more if it continues on this current uptrend!
I’ve realized that the depth of analysis and discussion of many of the stocks on this board just as good as, if not greater than, that of many Premium MF service boards I have participated in. So, here is to the first of what will hopefully be many profitable investments to come

Hahah good wit Nat.
I was calling this the Saulcratic method of investing. Maybe I called it the Saulocratic method but either way I think we need to formalize Saul’s generous genius and come up with one name.
I’m a Saulite and I follow the Saulcratic method of investing.
I am quite open to better suggestions as the brain power on this board is phenomenal. Let’s see some better ideas.
Maybe we should put “Love” in there somewhere as this guy is selfishly helping us support ourselves and our families.
Gee, thanks everyone for your appreciations. I feel like I should be blushing. I’m happy about the 29% increase in SYNA yesterday, and the 39% increase in PFIE this week, but I certainly didn’t know in advance that SYNA was going to make this “life altering” acquisition. And I have no idea why PFIE is up like that (I suspect that some institutional buyer is taking a position).
By the way, SYNA is only at roughly 20x trailing adjusted earnings AFTER the big run up yesterday, so I wouldn’t be afraid of taking a starter position here. Besides, it seems that the acquisition will fundamentally transform the company for the better. The only risk I see is the regulators forbidding the acquisition, which seems highly unlikely for such a small company.
This is my first post here. I only recently discovered this treasure trove of information. Ironically, the first post I read on this board was the “Open Invitation” post by Saul:
I saw it listed on the MF “Best of” page and decided to have a look and I’m sure glad that I did! I have been reading ever since and have really appreciated Saul’s recaps of some of his earlier posts.
Anyway, I just want everyone to know that I’m in! My first position from this board is SYNA. I set up a synthetic long earlier today - purchased 2 Jan 2016 $65 Calls and sold 2 Jan 2016 $65 Puts for a net debit of $19.3 plus $9.59 in commissions. So, this leaves me with a break-even price of $84.35.

Hi Chris, and welcome to the board. I hope that Synaptics will do well for you. We’re not always right on this board but we tend to discuss and admit our mistakes. (Synaptics certainly doesn’t seem to be one).
