OT: A soap opera of Governmental transition

A useful atmospheric mediocre but well thought out non-BBC show of the first days of the kingship of King Edward VII after the death of Victoria, marking a key moment in the passage from one age to another, from the age of empires to the age of wars as empires died.

I was captivated because I had never been able to force myself, republican that I am, to read up on it, and was shocked to find it full of premonitions and warnings of what is to come in our own Republic as the biggest tides shift….

King Edward VII and I have one thing in common, I wanted to postpone my appendix operation until after Carnival. The doctor said, “OK. but you can’t drink or leave town.” “I understand not leaving town but why not drink?” I asked. “Because you’ll get drunk even on a few drinks. Call me when you want to be operated.” Later that day I called, might as well get it over ASAP.

That would make for an inexpensive Carnival.
