Let’s say a once upon a time great power (Russia) invades a neighbor (Ukraine) using maximum-damage old-fashioned conventional warfare, causing all eyes to be riveted on the carnage.

Let’s say that, while the attention of the world is diverted, a different great power (China) slips about 1,000 special forces disguised as tourists into their “own” territory (Taiwan). These “tourists” converge on the Presidential mansion and the National Assembly building while the legislature is in session. Using special forces skills (not waving any flags or wearing horned headgear) they infiltrate these critical buildings and capture the president and legislature.

This could be done without damaging any structures, especially not the delicate machinery at TSMC.

That’s what I would do.

Of course the weapons in your tourist luggage would trip off the alarms when arriving at the airport or cruise port and you would die in a hail of gunfire?

Tim <***just thought I would point out a major flaw in the plan? I got in the habit when flying night dipping missions with young fresh out of training pilots who thought they knew everything>

When I did flight scheduling we had this thing called “The Major’s Moon”. I didn’t even have to look as the senior officers got first dibs and the full moon phase got penciled in quickly.

Republic of China (Taiwan) would prove to be brutal respondents.

Scene might be what you’d see in an ant colony when it’s invaded by an alien species.

I don’t think the 1000 special forces ‘tourists’ would survive the effort. Very blunt, very bloody.

Quizling attacks were used by the Germans in WWII. They were worrisome to many but not especially effective.

Prewar, the Germans had several training camps in the US. One on Long Island was known as Camp Siegfried.

There is little doubt that China already has plenty of their own people living in Taiwan and blending in over decades. Not necessarily special forces, but a MUCH stronger force multiplier than 1000 armed people on the ground. China is patient, they will take Taiwan when it is time to take it. But they will take it. Just like they waited and took Hong Kong, and then waited some more, and started repressing Hong Kong, and eventually Hong Kong will be fully repressed just like the mainland is.
