OT - The Right Pope

It could be smoke from the chimney. I saw a few pidgeons flying kind of crookedly.

I think it is considered polite to blow the smoke up the chimney, since the Sistine Chapel technically has a no-smoking policy.

New Pope has been critical of Trump and Vance in social media.

Vatican gonna get tariffed.

In seriousness, the talking heads on ABC said he is an advocate for “social justice”. Maybe the choice was a hint as to where the Cardinals think “social justice” is most threatened?

Not likely. Even if they did, it wouldn’t have much impact. Unless you consider civil penalties for sexual abuse victims as something that can be tariffed. Then they should be terrified.

The $1 billion question is whether Leo XIV is The Right Pope. With his past comments critical of TFG and TFGBB, it will be interesting to see whether Pope Leo XIV will change course to court big bucks.

That’s because the new Pope isn’t a real Catholic.

Far be it from me to comment on whether the Pope is a “real” Catholic.

However, his background is interesting.

When I heard that an American was elected as pope I thought, “Italian? Irish?Hispanic? German? Polish?” because those are large Catholic immigrant groups in the U.S.

Instead, the new pope has a much more interesting background.

Robert Francis Prevost was born at Mercy Hospital in Chicago on September 14, 1955, to Mildred (née Martínez) Prevost, a librarian, and Louis Marius Prevost, a United States Navy veteran of World War II and school superintendent in Glenwood.[8][9][10][11] His father was of Italian and French descent. His mother was the daughter of Louisiana Creole parents, Joseph Martinez and Louise Baquié, from New Orleans, who were of African, French, and Spanish descent. Martinez was Afro-Haitian, and Baquié a Black Creole. [end quote]

Then he spent many years in Peru and acquired Peruvian citizenship.
Truly an eclectic combination.

One thing the Pope is only 69 years old so he is going to put his stamp on the Vatican for a number of years.

Disclaimer, I’m not a practicing Catholic. I do believe the church should be led by someone who fights for the vulnerable. This Pope seems to be of that ilk. It will be good for him to demonstrate that not all USians are self-absorbed aholes. I like that!
