Sadly if the above is true, we’ll lose many helpful, and the ability to help many others. So much for the ‘Community’ listed up top…
At one time Yahoo, aka, the Yahoo Zoo was useful, until the trolls ruined it, then some of us went to Raging Bull, now gone, Might be a way to set up a Facebook Group, safely, but many, many will never set foot in there…
Pretty crazy… I’ll still peek at the various stock boards, but I see a lot more lost than gained by the above…
I hear you. As a Fool who is active across dozens (hundreds) of discussion boards, this will both cut down on my community value and free up precious free time.
Here’s a little more color on what is going on. For a number of months, TMF has been testing a new TMF Community board system over with MF Options. They feel comfortable that they are preparing to roll out the platform to the rest of the TMF Community.
Just as they did when creating the Premium Community and consolidating the individual Service Community company boards, TMF made the decision to refine the focus of the TMF Community to investing and financial-related discussion boards.
Many of the boards that will be archived have very little activity (boards with no activity over the last 24 months are already archived), and some of the boards with the most traffic are also the most controversial and require the heaviest moderation. Unfortunately, there are also going to be boards in between where there friendships have formed and conversations have been constructed and productive. This is just an unfortunate consequence of what was a difficult but necessary decision.

Who does not have a date for board closure or conversion to the new platform, but one thought would be to create Facebook groups to replicate the Board community and invite board member to join…

Well, we’ll all adapt, one way or anther, I admin several Groups on Facebook, most are nt time consuming if membership is well vetted, however lately FB opened the Public Groups to non-member commenting, membership, causing more work on those Public Groups, so the solution is a tighter controlled Private Group, but they have a few disadvantages…
I manage both private and public groups on Facebook. With the public groups, you can establish automated controls that help prevent group members from posting inappropriate content. My experience so far as that they can work too well, and I’ve more often re-approved a declined post rather than having to remove posts.

I ignore FB’s attempts to automate vetting of new members, I feel I need to take a better look, checking out other Groups they are in, even checking profiles for decent, related connections, and I dump the ones some individuals bulk add, sometimes 40-50 at a time, whoever did it vanishes… Simplistic answers to the questions, ‘yes’, ‘I agree’, go to the dustbin, too unless I see a local connection… Not looking for volume, more for local folks that have a real interest…
What I’m seeing this week at TMF is a serious decline of postings, casting about for things of interest, I’m finding less nd less… Pretty sad to see…
Here it is a day od a 1000+ drop of the DOW, nearly as much in NASDAQ, and the board are silent…
I think the closings may have been the final straw… Lack of social interactions are part of our lives, not just number crunching… Big mistake in my view…
