Q4 2025 Close-out quarter

This was supposed to be part of response in prior post. Removed the repeat statement and the Edit tag. On the dividend paying ideas. In general, if it is close to the ex-dividend day (say within three or four days, I will hold to that date before a trade. But, on longer time-frames, the dividend is less of a factor. ZIM Q4 dividend is a special case because it typically is a hefty payout and there is significant withholding. That one can go all the way to the ex-div wire as to whether to wait thru ex-div]

BTW, there are definitely costs to the trading. Case in point is small tech microcap Amtech Systems (ASYS). Followed the name for years, so it is on my radar. Price had trended down for the year, so I nibbled when ASYS shares were around $4. Two months later, I sold out for what I thought was a nice gain. ASYS shares continued running. Let me just say, had I held on for 4 - 5 weeks longer, I would have had three times the gain. If it is a single transaction - oh well, that part of the cost of managing risk. If one takes two or three nibbles, then there is a bit more hedging that can be done i.e. one can sell half, or a third, on a decent bounce e.g. with NAT.

Yesterday was relatively quiet - one transaction, more AWX in taxable - done.

Today, port started the day negative. Then one brokerage ac turned positive - first Roth ac, then taxable ac. I was in more of a trading and monetizing mode

  • On bounce, trimmed INSW in taxable ac
  • Added to MRVL in taxable ac
  • On sell-off, some HIMS back in Roth ac (the double sell yesterday looks really nice)
  • On bounce, another slice of NAT sold
  • On bounce, another slice of INSW sold (small loss)
  • New idea, nibble - DGNX in taxable ac
  • Roth ac - AAPL trim
  • Another slice of FLNG in taxable ac sold (slight loss)

10/20

New week, new developments, new challenges …

Accounts started the day positive - Yeah, Fruit (AAPL)!!

  • More HRL in taxable ac
  • More BWLP in taxable ac
  • More HIMS in Roth ac

[Edit: In % terms, NEGG bounce pretty nice too]

10/21 Wasn’t sure how the day was going to play out. Mid-morning, my mood became similar to 10/17. Scan the port, make decisions

  • Another nibble on MRVL in taxable ac
  • The remaining VG has exited
  • On bounce, sold the LULU position in taxable ac. A very good wash candidate
  • On bounce, monetized the CORZ stake in taxable ac
  • Added to HIMS in Roth ac
  • Slow tumbling BWLP is frustrating. But, on the flip side, it just validates the BWLP trim in the Roth ac.
  • With other names in shipping, uncertainty on the impact of port fees - just watching. I mean, Q3 earnings/numbers should be reasonable. The fees impact is a Q4 2025 item (Q3 for LPG)

10/22 - Another day, early start for me, slightly red. But Top 10 is holding up.

  • Taxable ac - idea causing a good chunk of the pull-down is NEGG. Turned position red, so I added.
  • More Spam … I mean, Hormel (HRL)
  • The little guy, AWX, is bouncing - just watching

Yikes! in 15 min, taxable ac has turned a lot redder. Twiddle thumbs or walk away for a short time

10/22 … A few hours later

It got uglier with many of the bright and shiny ones. It does sting to see the carnage. But much of the port was down to these levels last week too. And I got at least one right yesterday, with CORZ. Replace some CORZ shares with today’s discount. Then did a little more picking - more IREN in Roth ac, more NBIS in trading ac, trimmed AAPL in Roth ac

10/23 Week 4 of govt shutdown started yesterday. No end in sight.

Yesterday, although the port had gotten worse as the day progressed, the last hour saw the port become less red. Today, day started on positive note. With the excess cash, dipped again into some names

  • More CORZ in taxable ac
  • Spam again? Yes, more HRL in taxable ac
  • More NBIS in Roth ac
  • CRWV? Yes, why not. CRWV nibble in taxable ac
  • More HIMS in Roth ac

There will likely be more activity …

10/24 As I started this post, it occurred to me - today is United Nations Day. To the World, Happy UN Day!!

Yesterday, towards the end of the day, a couple of trades in taxable ac - another AWX nibble, another GPTY nibble.

Today, Ooo - some nice bounces

  • More HRL for taxable ac
  • After reporting yesterday, nice WU bounce - trimmed stake (small loss)
  • Out of nowhere, NEGG bounces more than 30% - monetized that last slice of first round
  • More NBIS in Roth ac

Just noticed, the government contractor entities - SAIC, BoozAllen sliding today

Although some of it is beginning to fade, QCOM had a “we be AI too” moment, and shares bounced hard. Now around $190-ish, after crossing the $200/sh mark - nice. At the $200 price point it became my largest position. But, has since slipped back below NVDA. Some trades to start the day

  • More HIMS in Roth ac
  • On nice bounce, trimmed GLNG in trading ac
  • BRK-B nibble in Roth ac
  • More NBIS in Roth ac

10/27 As QCOM bounced, I did momentarily consider locking in some gains. Yes, it was good news from QCOM. However, once it crossed over $200, I was seriously considering taking some off the table. Then, about 3 min later, below $200/sh, and I am less inclined to take action. And then, NEGG caught my attention, … I trimmed there for a nice gain instead. There were other interesting offerings to consider

  • More HIMS in taxable ac
  • More TGT in taxable ac
  • Another BRK-B nibble in Roth ac
  • Another TRMD nibble in Roth ac
  • Originally, there was an energy idea on my mind (couldn’t remember the name or ticker), so I opted for another AI name. Nibbled on FIG in trading ac
  • [Edit: Had a chance to go dig up the name above- it was NetPower (NPWR) ]

10/28

Very odd day from a trading perspective. Logged in to brokerage A, placed a couple of trades - no issues. Logged into brokerage B, had issues once I logged in. So logged out, and logged back in, and this time everything was fine. A few hours later, I log in to brokerage A again. I can get to my account without an issue. But, my trading widget is nowhere to be found. Also, the pull-down trade option gets me to a blank page. What up wit dat? Chat feature not helpful.

What was accomplished?

  • More HIMS in Roth ac
  • Maybe it was good I could not remember the name/ticker NPWR yesterday. Shares trading lower today. Initiated a new position at a lower price
  • Added to VERI in Roth ac
  • Added to VERI in taxable ac
  • Exited CAMT in taxable ac
  • The technical issues might have messed up a trade later in the day.

10/29 US Government Shutdown is starting week 5

Trading widget is back  & some not so great news from Hormel (HRL). Well, really some challenges. Another nibble in taxable ac, initiated position in Roth ac. Online educator Stride (LRN) tumbles over 50% -nibble time on a new name. LRN is still growing, just not as quickly.

10/31 Happy Halloween! Port not behaving too spookily

A few trades the last two days to close out the week.

  • LRN kept sliding - another nibble
  • Another FIG nibble in taxable ac
  • Realized more gains on NEGG (I make no claim to understand its behavior)
  • More HIMS in taxable ac
  • More VERI in Roth ac

Div accumulation for the YieldMax names - nice bump from YMAG. There was a late BWLP nibble in Roth ac.

11/03 As markets start a new month, two merger related items cross my radar

  • Idea in port - SSTK, planned merger with GETY put on hold for additional review by British authorities. SSTK originally picked up as a dividend play. With the merger, I did not expect a Q3 div. And now? Don’t know the answer.
  • Kimberley Clark (KMB) wants to buy Kenvue (KVUE) for a premium. That’s sending KMB shares tumbling - down more than 12.5% currently. Idea for div basket here??

Meanwhile, actual transactions. Well, CRWV is dropping - so added in taxable ac

Also, might seem like I’m reaching a little - but FRO nibble in taxable ac.

Still thinking - More LRN??

Don’t think trading is done

11/03 The second half of the day ended up being about things AI.

  • One AI data center name (IREN) was flying - happy for my position.
  • One AI data center name (NBIS) was falling. Added to my position in taxable ac (trading ac)
  • Realized some gains on NVDA when it crossed $210/sh
  • A third AI data center name (CRWV) was also falling - nibbled on that one again today.
  • More GPTY in taxable ac
  • Watching my bouncy meme-like fave - NEGG, Just watching, for now

11/04 Voting Day, … and a rough day for AI related names. Not all of mine. But most, and some e.g. NBIS, QCOM & VERI - pretty rough. Glad I trimmed NVDA yesterday. Nibbled on LRN in Roth ac. Might find other opportunities appealing as the day continues

11/05 Post Election Day. Actually felt very positive after doing my civic duty - going to the actual polling location, standing in a 30 - 35 person line, and waiting my turn to vote. This AM, some holdings reporting results.

  • GLNG - a couple of small surprises, dissected the name already. Decided this one is going to percolate. Trimmed my stake in Roth ac and exited the trading ac stake. Still a 1.2% holding.
  • ANET: Q3 beat, but taking a hit. Will watch, might add
  • HIMS: Back to discussions with Novo-Nordisk on Wegovy, see growth, share bounce - additional nibble
  • VSH: Grr! I had a small worry a couple of weeks back. I had been thinking of trimming back then.

11/06

Had seen the after hours trading in COHR on 11/05, so I knew at least one name was likely to have a good day today. Better than I expected - took some gains in the Roth ac.

QCOM dipped - I have to parse. INSW reported, got a bounce. Have not read the report, but did see a SA tease bullet on the dividend. I think TRMD also reported. Going to be an active day with reading. Other activity,

  • added to LRN in taxable ac,
  • added to HIMS in taxable,
  • on bounce trimmed WU in taxable ac
    … more to follow

11/06 Continues … more activity

  • On dip, more IREN in Roth ac
  • On sell-off, more RELY in taxable ac
  • Sold another slice of COHR in Roth ac
  • More CRWV in trading ac
  • More TGT in taxable ac
  • More NPWR in trading ac
  • More BROS in Roth ac

Accounts bounced around a lot today - Percentage wise not extreme, maybe 1% - 1.75%. Finished maybe -0.7% Roth ac started -ve, but quickly recovered and moved to positive. The COHR gain was nice, … maybe too nice. Hence, monetizing a second time - still higher. With a few big names retreating a little, it made sense to me. Still like the name. But, after watching QCOM tease with a 20% one-day run-up, and give a chunk back, I was not going to behave the same way with COHR. [Edit: Roth ac ended the day negative; with today’s drop QCOM has given back all “the AI news” gain]. The shipping segment names INSW, TRMD generating excitement with good results and raised payouts. Crude tankers expecting the additional OPEC barrels, plus tighter tonnage in the “compliant cargos” are a plus. If their logic is right, this is an additional plus for INSW and DHT, who each added a VLCC in Q4 2025. Ironically, each company had two VLCCs exit from the respective fleets sometime in 2025.
