Q1 2026 And this quarter?

Happy New Year!

2026 is here. Initially, my thinking was that I didn’t do a lot of clean-up in late 2025 to prepare for 2026. But, as I thought about it a little more, maybe I don’t give myself the credit for the forward planning decisions I made in mid-Nov 2025. I now realize, there was clean-up, it just occurred somewhat earlier than the last two weeks of 2025. That decision has the added benefit of offering a few additional choices in 2026 (YMAG, if I want on Jan 2nd, 2026), or early 2026 (TGT as an example after Jan 11, 2026). Do I need additional choices? I mean, 2026 starts as a clean slate. HohumYNWA can go shopping @ a Target store location. Just no TGT stock trading for a couple of weeks - seems doable

I don’t have a 2026 watchlist. Yet. I can start with a couple of names from the tail-end of my 2025 list, and then augment with a name, or two. That’s an initial plan.

Happy 2026 all

It’s end of the year. We should start seeing earnings reports in abt 2 weeks. That should kick off the investing year once the A team is up to speed from the holiday break.

Much depends on how earnings go. K shaped economy seems to be doing well in the upper branch. Most tech firms expected to make their numbers. Maybe no big gains. Bottom leg continues to struggle. No reports of major disappointment in retail holiday sales. Travel continues to do ok indicating upper end consumers are spending and not worried about recession. Cruise line winter sales are a key indicator.

Bottom line. Waiting for more data. Need to pick the right ones!!

01/02/26 First trading day of 2026

Seems to be a positive day for tech, negative day for shipping. And, we’re off. First pair of trades of 2026 - On bounces, trimmed ENTG in Roth ac, trimmed CRWV in taxable ac.

Later, two more trims. Trimmed IREN in Roth ac, trimmed MRVL in taxable ac. While a holding in each ac (ENTG, MRVL) were sold for a gain, first trading day of 2026 is viewed more as a spruce up day. CRWV is only a taxable ac holding, so no “disallowed losses” to worry about (but wash transaction possible yes).

Sold Robinhood. Seems to be tracking bitcoin. Had nice profits. Time to claim them.

@pauleckler- Good for you. And better, if these were gains in IRA. And even better, if the IRA was a Roth IRA. But, even in a taxable ac, booking profits seem like a plus. And, if at the start of the year, a bigger plus.

Yep, its a traditional IRA, which came in handy as was not a long term position. Have small Roth and plan to convert it to growth stocks too.

01/05 At another time, I would probably mention the Golar development as a separate item. But, since it is the start of 2026 and things are slow, I will mention the item here. In their Q3 2025 earnings call, Golar had mentioned a couple of items related to the FLNG Mark II build. Well, there is an additional update from the yard (CIMC Raffles) regarding an important subsystem - the compressor system for the vessel. CIMC is opting for a Norwegian entity to design and deliver that system for the FLNG Mk II unit

Some trading today

  • On bounce, sold some ENTG in taxable ac
  • Closed out WU stake in taxable ac
  • On pullback, added COHR to taxable ac
  • On bounce, closed out VSH in Roth ac
  • Considered a couple of shipping ideas. Nah, too early.

01/06 At least for some of my holdings, a somewhat bouncy day. A few transactions today. The more relevant ones were trimming NVDY in Roth ac and selling the remainder of my ENTG in the Roth ac. Since the taxable ac ENTG trade was also positive, can jump back into ENTG with no concerns. On bounce, CMBT was monetized.

CES this week. How the heck am I only now finding out about Sandisk (SNDK)? The company had an incredible run in 2025, and appears to be keeping the form in 2026. Unless it occurred during the last two weeks, I don’t recall seeing SNDK in IBD’s Top 20 list (I actually usually scan to #30) in the prior 2 or 3 months.

Sandisk came up on my radar a month or so ago. All memory stocks seem to be doing well. Also Micron, Western Digital, and Seagate. Apparently this is part of AI. Data centers need lots of memory chips.

I hear what you are saying. But, if one looks at a SNDK chart the last four months-or-so, shares had a nice run from early Sep 2025 to mid Nov 2025. Then a pull-back for a few weeks, then a much sharper ascent the last 7 - 10 days. Yesterday’s price bounce was likely Jensen Huang’s comments on SNDK. But my earlier comment was the point that a lot of SNDK’s bounce seemed to go unnoticed. At least, in the sources I tend to use e.g. IBD, SeekingAlpha

I don’t rely on services but do my own analysis. Sandisk reports earning Jan 29. Last reported qtr was $1.22/sh earnings. 4x for growth stock gives estimated PE 71. Earning expected to grow to 3.32/sh, 2.7 fold increase. EPE falls to 26. Very attractive price. Not over valued. And nice 90 day curve. All numbers from Yahoo Finance.

These numbers look interesting–

ePE	$/sh

SNDK 26.00 347.30
WDC 26.00 200.40
MU 10.50 338.00
STX 27.70 309.00

01/08 Had a chance to peruse the last few IBD issues. MU starts 2026 in pole position. But SNDK is not in the Top 30 on the regular list. Nor do they make the Big Cap 20. COHR got whacked today - down almost 10% - Opportunity? Might add to the stake tomorrow. Lots of Gold and other miners on the IBD lists lately. Shipping continuing to hold up well.

Taiwan Semiconductor reported Dec revenue growth this a.m. Earnings due Jan 15. Tech stocks doing well. SNDK up almost 10%. Also Seagate. Lam Research almost 7%; KLA 5.5%. A good day. But Nvida not today. Selective buying.

I’m thinking tech stocks will get a boost when earnings get reported over the next month or so. Buy the dips.

01/07 - 01/09 Some transactions to end the week, including a couple of new names.

  • Per sell-off earlier in the week, opted to add more COHR (taxable ac).
  • On bounce, closed ORCL in Roth ac (will likely revisit soon)
  • FRO announced another significant fleet development involving two transactions - Sale of 8 older VLCCs & addition of nine newbuild VLCCs from Hemen
  • New idea: ALGM nibble in taxable ac
  • New idea: AMD in Roth ac
  • LULU nibble in Roth ac
  • On price retreat, added to ANET in Roth ac

Pretty busy work week - no trading for me. I did see some snippets on TSM reporting results on 01/15. No position, but happy for them. Own some AMD which seemed to respond in a positive manner to the news. And COHR is recovering, but in a choppy fashion - up, down, up down. Neoclouds moving up nicely - in particular, CRWV. On the negative side, larger position QCOM has tumbled over 10%. Also, HIMS not doing too well.

01/20 Funds into taxable and Roth ac masked the bloodied port

01/21 Opportunity to do a little rebalancing.

  • Trimmed VSH in taxable ac
  • Added to TGT in taxable ac
  • Trimmed INSW in Roth ac
  • Add to QCOM in Roth ac
  • Nibbled on MRVL in taxable ac
