…old man dealraker (me!) was a’tellin’ you guys that all the US railroads except Burlington Northern were obsessing short term (eps profits only!!!) rather than any logical long term shareholder/customer model? My guess is that a few years from now Berkshire will once again get praise for being so far different in its railroad method…that it was better run by leaps and bounds.
Yea, in my view CSX and NSC in particular have taken a gun and blown a foot off. And further I’ll bet you a bunch that a lot of buybacks should have been towards capital expenditures which have gone through the floor. Not at Berkshire’s railroad though!
