A $34,000 incentive to enter the country to self deport. Once city ordinances were made soft on homelessness in Seattle, homelessness increased.
Some people just don’t get economics.
In San Francisco the government distributed free candoms to reduce aids. The police used candom possession as proof of prostitution.

Depends on where you’re “self-deporting” to. Is $34,000 enough to get a Syrian immigrant to return to the middle of a war in his homeland? Probably not.

Controlled legal immigration is good. Immigrants are hard working and create jobs. They also inject variety and vibrancy.
illegal immigration in small numbers is tolerable, even desirable. The second generation assimilates well.
Uncontrolled illegal immigration is dumb. It creates a strain on social services, social fabric and jobs.

True but in the 80s, 90s, into 2000 we wanted cheap labor. It was more understood and therefor controled than we now want to admit.
How would that stand up in court?
