When Mom and Dad moved I called the Long Term Care insurance and asked “What do you need from us?” They said a new plan of care.
Once we all got on the same page about what the plan of care was supposed to be I faxed that to the insurance company.
Tuesday, September 27, I got a letter from LTC saying they needed three things from the new place, and had been trying to get those things, but hadn’t gotten a response from new place. If they didn’t get it in 7 days from the date of the letter (September 22) Dad’s claim would be closed.
Cue phone calls and upset people. New place said they never got any requests from LTC. LTC care says the last time they faxed a request (to the confirmed correct new place fax line) was September 15. New place faxes items to LTC. I call LTC and they note on Dad’s file that the items were faxed because it’ll take at least 2 days before the fax hits a human in the claims department. The mail room has whatever with the faxes so claims can review the documents.
We paid for Dad’s assisted living last month without reimbursement. I hope they get this straight so we can claim this month.
Yeah, I had a similar (though less urgent) experience. It took a couple of months before they got the LTC what they wanted. LTC pays 1poormom directly, and the claims were filed from the moment she was eligible, so she did end up getting what was due. Her AL/MC facility has direct debit, so they get paid. I occasionally check that the claims are still being filed regularly. Probably due to do another check, especially since she just moved to MC.
There is already so much effort, so much anxiety in caring for your parents, making sure they get what they need. Having to confront the threats from this kind of incompetence is just to unfair. Fingers crossed!!
We’ve submitted for reimbursement for September. The facility had to send them their part of the paperwork twice because they didn’t sign the first rounds.
1poormom’s facility apparently is used to dealing with it. I had to hook them up with the LTC provider initially (i.e. I got a letter “we need xyz from the facility”), but now it’s all automatic. I don’t have to do a thing except occasionally check that she got her money.
I suppose we are (finally) seeing an advantage to the OFH. We pay an exorbitant monthly rent, but it includes long term care at this facility,
One hitch: They say you have to he hospitalized three days before you can go to the LTC facility. But the hospital doesn’t want you there for three days (for some reason.) Que pasa?
