Apple just released a bunch of new M5 based hardware spec bumps a few days ago: iPad Pro, MacBook Pro, Vision Pro. Orderable now and shipping next week.
So was this the long-rumored October “event”?

I think so. Apple events aren’t real until Apple announces them, and rumors don’t really count unless Apple confirms them. Besides, even though they don’t have big staged presentations any more, most Apple events that I can recall do invite the press to come in and check out new hardware. That takes planning and preparation, so hard announcements have to come out ahead of time.

I was effectively offline since last Thursday, so thought I might have missed something when I saw the recent ew highs, but that was just the 17 sales going better, it seems… I expected 26.1 to be out at whatever ‘event’ came along, but no such luck it seems… So we wait n watch.
Personally, I love my iPhone Air. It’s no doubt largely because I upgraded from an SE, but I also think that the design was made for people like me who kind of miss the days of Apple focusing hard on design.

It’s surprising to me that the iPhone Air might not be selling that well. I wonder why. The name? Perhaps if it was branded the iPhone Fit, or iPhone Slim, it would be more of a hit Only half kidding…
But the fact that the other models are selling well is very good to hear!
The iPhone Air got a lot of bad pre-press with respect to its battery life. Since it has essentially the same battery life as an iPhone 16, and given my own experience of >24 hours of battery life, I think those prognostications were entirely wrong.
It also has only one camera, compared to three for the 17 Pro and two for the 17. In that case, and again based on my personal experience, I wonder how many people actually use all the camera capabilities of those models. It may be a case of not using it much but not wanting to regret not having it (e.g. macro, more powerful zooms, etc.) on rare occasion. For me, yes, there are times when maybe I wish I had more cameras, but there are also times when I wish I had a full TB of storage. I still don’t regret getting the iPhone Air. It’s the best iPhone I’ve ever owned.

Battery life hasn’t been an issue for any of the various iPhones I’ve had over the years, but I don’t generally stay on the phone for long talks, if using the GPS, I generally am able to either plug it in (F150) or drop on the magnetic charge pad (RAV4)… No long flights for years now, but even then dodging videos kept me OK as far as battery life…
But, our DD pretty much did everyone on her phone, always packed back up power packs, but I don’t remember her ever complaining on her battery life…
Not sure gif a lot of photography would eat too much, but I’ve slowed down on that, too… The old Nikon’s are dusty, too much of a bother, iPhone does fine… So still on 15 Pro Max, it’s battery still at 100% at 1 PM… A quiet day…
