Michigan was holding hearings yesterday about the toxic waste from the Ohio train wreck being shipped to Michigan. The local news showed the Congresswoman from my detro Detroit district making a point about the bargain tip fee that makes Michigan the trash and toxic waste destination of the upper midwest.
The previous Gov tried to do something about the giveaway rate, but the (L&Ses) overruled him.
Michigan has a 36-cents-per-ton tipping fee at landfills, where 25.5 percent of the 17 million tons of trash dumped each year comes from other states and Canada, according to the administration. Fees in neighboring states average $5.32 per ton, ranging from $13 in Wisconsin to 60 cents in Indiana.
