Unfortunately statistics show that owners of PHEV vehicles don’t plug in often enough to get 95% of the emissions reductions. And, interestingly, they also show that owners of PHEVs drive more than owners of ICEs!

I think for the next decade or two (or three), there will be room for both EV and PHEV (pure ICE will most likely disappear within a decade), but long term, I suspect that EV will rule. Not because of initial cost, but rather because the many fewer moving parts will likely result in lower ongoing costs. And once we find a good way to recycle batteries, it’ll only accelerate.
