The discussion is duplicitous. Employers are hiring fewer college grads because of their economic fears. Meanwhile Silicon Valley is faking a victory lap to sell more garbage AI product.

The press does not verify anything.

Yes I believe that is true.

But the article states*:”Between late 2022 and July 2025, entry-level employment in those areas declined by roughly 20%”*

Unfortunately the study does not break down the decline by year. If the decline largely occurred in 2025 then corporate earning fear is the cause. How much of the decline occurred in 2022 & 2023?

AI:“These large language models are trained on books, articles and written material found on the internet and elsewhere,” Brynjolfsson told CBS MoneyWatch. “That’s the kind of book learning that a lot of people get at universities before they enter the job market, so there is a lot of overlap with between these LLMs and the knowledge young people have.”

Experienced workers are still in demand.

By comparison, employment in those areas rose between 6% and 9% for older workers, according to the researchers.

It seems currently AI does not offer the same competitive benefit in regard to experienced workers compared to newly minted college grads.

So is the AI threat to employment overstated? Can AI gained the required acumen?
