My family would have simply left. We in fact through the ages have left.
There is nothing owed this amount of dishonesty. Not even life itself.

The Russian army has always been incredibly brutal. My great-grandfather was conscripted but left for America (probably deserted) after an officer hit him on the head with a baton, causing him to lose his hearing. His wife smuggled the family out under the hay in a wagon.
