Andrew Yang explains:

I think we see the impact of AI already in reduced hiring. And college graduates finding it harder to get hired.
No doubt robots trucks are coming. They will be opposed by unions representing truck drivers. I wonder how many are independent contractors. Over the road long distance truck driving will likely be robo first but only approved in a few states so far.
We shall see how the politics work out. Trucking has strong lobbies in many states. They work to keep fuel taxes down, licensing fees reasonable, and ask for better roads.
Andrew Yang when he ran for POTUS was premature by about 15 years. But he saw the future (and I voted for him in the primaries). A lot of jobs will be rendered obsolete by AI and automation, and we will need a UBI to prevent riots in the streets. Unlike previous obsolescences (e.g. the Industrial Revolution, the Internet, etc), more new jobs won’t be created this time. Many people will find their skills sets useless. Not just truck drivers, but even college-educated professionals.
It’s not there quite yet, but it’s coming.
