Zuckerberg's Threads now fastest app to 100 million users (5 days)

Meanwhile, how’s the usage on Threads?

Isn’t that a used clothing sharing site?

In a word, “rubbernecking” everyone loves a car crash.

The membership went up.

The heart of it is how much would Musk charge per month. If it is three bucks the bots are done and he makes billions. I think it would work.

I use X more now. The reason I can rebut in public the opposition and they can not hold their own. A bad or sorry argument by the opposition is all they have. That loses in politics automatically. I like running them over and dancing on their graves. 40 years of no industrial policy…get out…I mean get out of here entirely…off the premises till you get a grip on realty. I love it. Freedom of expression. The hammer comes down. Politely? Sort of. Having been an obstacle there is no real reason for me to be polite.

Oh and it would exclude operatives from Russia. Those losers.

Last I read signups were plateauing, but at a terrific level, but after a week or so people are using it less and less. I suppose that’s kind of natural, it takes time to develop a circle of people to follow, get used to the tools, complain about those that aren’t there yet, and so on. You know, kind of like the Fool changing format.

Counterintuitively, I think the plan to charge users has a chance of saving it. If the price was low enough that lots of people wouldn’t care (say, $10 or $15 a year) but high enough to get rid of the bots, it might actually turn into a useful service.

But even at that price it’s going to drive away a lot of regular users, especially in foreign countries where “free” is more important than anything. I note that advertising revenues at X have now declined more than 60% (company figure), so I’m not sure he has much choice. It’s clear that in the short run, at least, advertising isn’t going to carry it, and with the increasing lack of oversight I doubt that number is going to rebound anytime soon.

Something about a threaded implement and a pooch comes to mind, but the nanny won’t let me say it.

Doggedly thorough, you nailed it again.

The entire thing seems silly.

You don’t need to charge to eliminate the bots. Simply require credit card verification. For those that don’t have a credit card, some other account verification method. If the same card is used more than say six times, it is declined.

Unless there is a way to spoof Visa/MC that I don’t know about, this would get rid of the bots without costing users.

But, like you said, for much of the world, even $1 a month is going to be too much.

The market for ads is mostly in the West. The Westerns pay for all sorts of money services. Think of this as NetFlix if you are into X.

I see the attraction. It is entertainment time.

Not for you? I get that.

I’d love to be on a fly on the wall watching the Kremlin handlers.

Facebook would have a harder time with this. While their money comes from the West they have a huge membership. If they step aside by charging the competition from the third world will come back at them if given a chance. FB can not step aside.

I was asking about usage, not members. Yeah, a bunch of people signed up, but if they never post anything, then it isn’t much of a resource. If the only thing they post is a duplicate of what they post on Twitter and there is a lot more on Twitter, then there isn’t much point in following Threads.

Zuckerberg saw a major drop in usage right away. He also says Meta will be adding functionality to grow it.

I’d bet on Zuckerberg. I’d also bet on Musk.

But not with my money. I have other ideas.
