An Israel-Iran ceasefire?

The 12-day war may be coming to an end.

Here’s my problem with that. It begins with ā€œTrump says.ā€

Anyone who thinks that what Trump says is true without finding some independent confirmation hasn’t been paying attention for a decade or more.

lol, this thing will go on for decades. People live in fantasy land.

You may well be correct. However, here we’re talking about this particular 12-day conflict.

Fine. I assume you saw the question mark in the thread title.

From CNN, five minutes ago:

Qatar helped broker Israel-Iran ceasefire, source says
President Donald Trump spoke with the Emir of Qatar today and told him that the US was able to get Israel to agree to a ceasefire with Iran, said a source familiar with the matter.

Trump then asked Qatar to work on persuading Iran to also agree to a ceasefire, the source said. Vice President JD Vance then coordinated with the Qatari Prime Minister’s office on details.

After speaking with the Qatari Prime Minister the Iranians agreed to the ceasefire proposal, the source said.

CNN has reached out to the White House for comment.

Trump also spoke to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday to broker that side of the deal, a US official says, in a series of phone calls that Trump, Vance and others had today.

Fine. I assume you know how a rhetorical question is phrased.

Looks like Trump announced the deal even before Iran and Israel could come out with an announcement. The markets are reacting to the news and Oil is down. I was planning to short Oil, too slow.

Indeed. The question now is, will the ceasefire hold?

Iran is now going to get a Nuclear weapon in next coming years. The aim will be to blow up Israel.

People live in fantasy land if they think this is over.

TIG still angling for that Nobel.

The nuke program was Israel’s official excuse for the war. US says nuke program totally ā€œobliteratedā€, so now ā€œBibiā€ will need to cook up another excuse.

Iranian official says no formal cease fire, but they will stop shooting, if Israel stops shooting.

ā€œAs of now, there is NO ā€˜agreement’ on any ceasefire or cessation of military operations,ā€ Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi wrote in a post on X. ā€œHowever, provided that the Israeli regime stops its illegal aggression against the Iranian people no later than 4 am Tehran time, we have no intention to continue our response afterwards.ā€

Is the Iranian regime demonstrably nuttier than North Korea’s

Is the Iranian regime demonstrably more unstable than Pakistan?

I think we know these things are never done until both sides agree to comply. Regardless of who says what it’s compliance that matters.

Let’s hope the cease fire holds and agreements can be negotiated and signed.

Iran agreed to the ceasefire. It is sad, US citizens have very little faith in their president.

I don’t think word of the President matters so much. He prefers not to do more military actions in the mid-east. Unless it becomes necessary.

Success requires Israel and Iran to come to terms. Nothing else matters if that fails.

This ceasefire reminds me of how Michael Scott declared bankruptcy…

The authority of 15 ton bombs is quite remarkable, the voice from up high!

The Captain

As they say, the situation is ā€œfluidā€.

Steve

Fluid? Here’s another F word thrown out by TFG…

Good gracious, projecting much?

He wants a Nobel. He couldn’t get it done with Ukraine, in a day, or a month. So he tries with Israel and Iran.

Steve…wonders what the Pakistanis want from the US

And that’s the problem here. He doesn’t actually have a plan or a guiding principle, other than ā€œI want something important for me, I want a Nobel Peace Prizeā€.

We saw the George HW Bush presidential museum over the weekend. It was time well spent. It massively reminded me of just how far the GOP has fallen over the last 30 years. We walked away a bit sad as a result of that.

Pakistan is coming ever closer to some forms of collapse, as its ruling alliance of heriditary wealth with military muscle has led to insane corruption and lack of real development all now tetering on collapse. To begin with it wants money and replacements for the weapons they’ve received since the 1950s in their endless confrontation with India, and after that, and something magic to make up for the fact that India is coming close to utterly dominating them.

There’s always a slew of undeserving yahoos nominated -

People shouldn’t make a big deal about the nomination, winning is what matters. There have been a number of controversial winners in the past, TFG would take the cake.

Dude can’t close peace deals, deports immigrants to rando countries, and on, and on, and on. Maybe we could make an argument that he’s ā€œdone the most or the best work for fraternity between nationsā€ā€¦in opposition to the US.
