European banks hem and haw

NYT snippet:

European banks are more enmeshed with Russia. Deutsche Bank’s C.F.O., James von Moltke, said yesterday that it was not “practical” to close its Russia business: “We’re there to support our clients.” (The bank is taking heat for that stance today.) Deutsche added that Russia accounts for just 0.3 percent of its loan book. Other European lenders are far more exposed.

Wendy,

Unfortunately some of my Times emails are specialized columns for the email services. There are links in the stories but not for the particular columns.

That is not the general thing but applies when I do not include a link.

I believe Deutsche Bank is now exiting Russia as well. Good move, but with only 0.3% of their loan book it was also an easy, painless decision. Still, good job.

Russia is claiming they are not at war with Ukraine. (I guess that famous Russian book will be re-titled "Special Military Operations and Peace, by Tolstoy). They are at war it’s just not formalized with a declaration. They claim the West is at war with them economically. We are, it’s just not formalized with a declaration.

What happens if there is a WW III and nobody declares it?

What happens if there is a WW III and nobody declares it?

A war isn’t over until BOTH sides say it is over or one side is no longer capable of insisting that it isn’t.
