I saw a CyberTruck on the road yesterday

I thought that they looked really bad in all the photos and videos I’ve seen.

But …

they look worse IRL.

I wonder where they got the idea from?

Saw one last week in person. Thought it was sweet. I loved it.

Was Parker driving it

My neibhorhood perhaps Kim was driving.

Edited. I am out of date badly.

Seems the top housing stock is way down for years now. No longer in the $10s of millions.

I had heard no one wants these properties any longer. But I had no idea the market was that far off.

wow, do not like the look at all, but it is an oddly cool truck. From the vid intercst added, $121,000 for it, which is another big wow. I use my truck, it gets scratched, bumped, dinged, what have you, and I’d be cringing every time I went off pavement in a $120k truck. This truck looks almost stealth-military, which is not for me. But it is cool.

With all of the metal that this truck consists of, what happens in an accident, and those powerful batteries develop a short to the frame or body ? I’m sure there is some type of overload protection which will melt or open, but then there is all of that voltage and potential current just waiting for a way to complete the circuit. Would not want to be a 1st responder and seeing one of these at a crash site.

7074 sq ft. Our family house in MN was 1800 sq ft per floor. Basement, first floor, second floor, attic w/apt and 1/2 bath. 7200 sq ft. Two furnaces, no AC (house built late 1800s/early 1900s). All large stone construction, lots of windows everywhere.

I see the trees that used to be on the hill were taken down.

Ever worry about flammable gasoline in your car? In movies they make great scenes when they fly off cliffs!

It’s plain suicide to get into a gasoline powered car!

lol, actually I have thought about vehicles bursting into flames. One difference between the 2 scenarios is that a vehicle in flames is obviously in flames. An electric vehicle damaged in a manner in which the batteries are about to pump 200+ amps thru a human body is invisible to the naked eye. Bystanders will want to think twice before trying to unprofessionally provide help at a crash site.

Why if there is a fire in the battery or a short how long would the charge last?

The manservant Parker was driving.

Seems like people just want to create FUD when this design issue has already been considered decades ago
.
Since the first hybrids 25 years ago this has been a common question/concern and the designs have all had a device that cuts off the power not just on overload but when the car is in a crash

The explanation was that the Prius uses the airbag pre-crash inertial sensors (the ones that determine whether you get a 1 stage or 2 stage airbag deployment upon impact) to disconnect the HV battery pack and accessory battery in anticipation of a crash. This caused the ICE to stop and all power to the vehicle to be cut (other than possibly headlights/taillights). She pulled to the side of the road with an apparently completely dead Prius. After 30-45 seconds the Prius came back to life as if nothing had happened.

lol, yeah, that’s me, I’m a real rabblerouser.

Thar ya go trash talk’n again

The point is the same things exist on the fossil fuel side of all of these industries…but worse.

That’s not even unique to EVs or hybrids. My 11 year old ICE has a cutoff on the ordinary 12 volt battery that is triggered with any airbag deployment.

I finally saw 2 (two) in the same parking lot, a couple days ago.
I was mildly ‘impressed’ that they were NOT as ‘large’ as I’d expected.

IMO, they do NOT ‘look worse IRL’. They are just ‘way different’.

IIRC, the truck ‘adjusts’ it’s height based on being parked vs ‘moving’?

I walked around them both, oggling, and comparing to my RAV4 size, width, length, height.
I ‘can’ get the truck into my 2-car garage… but, it would be a squeeze.

The truck IS ‘angular’, and not particularly ‘pretty’…
It is NOT the ‘art’ of the 1950s land yachts, or the 1960s muscle cars.
It’s more ‘industrial art’.
But, IMO, ‘art’ it is.
I drove a 2010 Prius for 9 years. Now, that’s ‘not a pretty car’… so, for me, the ‘not pretty’ aspect of the Cybertruck is less of a consideration.
If I understand correctly, the Cybertruck does NOT have FSD, due to ‘different sensor locations; FSD not trained, etc’.
If I were to get an EV, I want AV, too.

I didn’t (and do not) like the tonneau cover on the bed.
I drive a midsize SUV cause I want the ‘box like’ rear storage. No, I don’t use it often… but, when I do, I want it.
No. The MX Tesla ‘rear’ is not ‘boxy’ enough for me. LOLOL.

I would be much more interested in a ‘van’ or a traditional ‘boxy’ SUV form.

In addition, I do NOT want to ‘stand out’. I like being ‘invisible’… a RAV4 is PERFECT for that. LOLOL.

ralph does not plan to buy either a Cybertruck or an EV. But, who knows? Things might change?

I’d equate it to the brutalist architecture of the 20th century. It has that same vibe to me.

“Brutalist” is really a very good way to describe it!
