Photos at Apple have always been quite confusing.
If you go to the photos app on an iPhone, you will see (on bottom) “Library”, “For You”, “Albums”, “Search”. Library is where all your photos are located and a copy of them can also be stored on iCloud (by turning “Photos” on in iCloud settings).
If you go into Albums, you will see “Recents” and “My Photo Stream” and all the user created albums. Apparently “My Photo Stream” contains your last 500 (1000?) photos and is always mirrored in iCloud so those last photos can be viewed on any of your iDevices.
Seems like that automatic iCloud mirroring of your last 500 (1000?) photos is going away next month. If you want photos in iCloud, you need to turn on Photos in iCloud settings.
I always found “My Photo Stream” to be flaky. Sometimes photos would instantly mirror on other devices, but sometimes it took a long time, or never showed up. Same wifi, same networks, same everything, it seemed to be random.
I received the email about this yesterday.
I don’t have any listing for My Photo Stream under albums.
Me too. I assume I turned it off at some time in the past and just used iCloud.
I think it was used mostly back when you had to connect to your PC to upload photos but that requirement is long gone with iCloud for Windows installed there.
Yep, I use iCloud don’t think I’ve used streaming except I found just a couple. Use iCloud for backup for photos afaik. Thx
