This looks pretty interesting and convenient. The $0.99 app uses the stored SpO2 sensor sent to the iPhone and displays it on the watch! I won’t spoil the surprise ending. ![]()
I’m happy with the current O2 access, via the Health app, anything more isn’t needed, but maybe if I were sickly or covid came by again, maybe… Interesting he took the time to try to open it up a bit…
We’ll see next week how 26 does with all the changes…
I really have to ask; what is this fascination with SpO2 and the need to monitor this constantly? If it is really bad, you’re dead! What’s the mystery?

Yeah, seems like it would only be really useful for people with chronic breathing problems, like emphysema, or when you have a bad case of the flu or covid.
It would be particularly useful for those in that group who don’t know (or believe) they have problems.
Back in my working days, 80s, 90s, I had a series of bad bronchitis, even pneumonia, it would have been handy then for sure as I had an old timer DDr who avoided the new antibiotics, dang near killed me I thin, or at least his wife/nurse told me I should have been in the hospital at one bad point.. Once he retire, new Doc had me on the new meds, pretty much halted all the messy times… Had a lot of weeks off work due to his letting me work it out on my own… Recently I bought a separate Oxt measuring device, before I had the newer Apple Watch, kept an eye on the situation, but now, even the workaround is better… Changing times, Doctors…
True, but that makes it an even more niche group of users. Maybe 1 out of 50? (wild guess)
So, how do the numbers from the Apple Watch compare with the dedicated device?
Match up real well, it shows heart rate as well, both showed 97% when I checked after the earlier post, I thought battery might have died, been so long since I’d used it, but it’s still alive n well… Also the % can vary by what finger chosen, but only a point or two… Good backup…
The particular one I bought is no longer in Amazon, but this is the same…

I don’t have an Apple watch, just an Oura ring. It does an amazing job tracking my sleep, fine for tracking my heart, and an adequate job tracking my activity (such as it is), but is not so great at O2. My stick-it-on-the-end-of-the-finger tool never reads above 98, more generally 97 or 96. The Oura doesn’t give spot readings of O2, but it says my average concentration overnight is 99%.
Good to know. ……..20 chars….
