OT: Renewing Drivers License In State of Texas

The boss is 79 and she received a letter from the DPS advising her she can no longer renew her drivers license via mail. Houston’s DPS offices are notoriously dumps. You can avoid the dump by getting an appointment. I defy you to use the Texas DMV web site to obtain an appointment. They want every logon ID, password, TDL #, date of birth, serial number, etc known to mankind and you go through this B/S 43 times and they still won’t issue you an appointment.

Any suggestions on how to obtain an appointment.

I’m two years the boss’s elder but somehow when I renewed (during COVID) they gave me a driver’s license that doesn’t expire until 2030. By then it won’t be an issue for me.

Maybe check to see if there are any “private” renewal places around. When I still lived in Louisiana, our local DMVs were notorious for very slow and very poor service. Ran across a “private” company (obviously state approved) where you could renew your driver’s license and car tags for a small fee. IIRC, the extra $20 was well worth it. No lines, no hassle, maybe 15 minutes tops. This company did other things, notary, etc., so not solely dependent on DMV customers.

Hey JLC. Wish we were that lucky to have that service here in Texas but NOOOOOO!!! It’s has to be done at the Dump.

The boss just tried to do it via telephone and she went through Robot hell and still doesn’t have an appointment.

Call your state representative and ask for help. Usually they have connections.

We finally found a link:

Of course the state of Texas didn’t make it easy to find but then is any thing maintained by a government agency easy?

I’ve lived in several states that fund their government agencies and never had these kinds of issues. You get what you pay for.

Texas is 45th in state expenditures per capita

In my experience, dealing with government agencies is easier than dealing with MegaCorps. I can’t imagine how terrible a DMV run by Comcast would be.

Connecticut seems to have the same system. There is a trick if I have this right. Once you are all set up with the info in its slots, you can hit “Resubmit” or “Submit” repeatedly. You do not have to reenter the info. It took a bit of work for me to realize this.

There is a reason I am working with computers as an artist.

I figured out discussing systems yesterday from an artist’s point of view that van Gogh used half the brushstrokes a romantic era painter would have used. Now we say what an effect.

Oh man, now you have brought the sorest of sore vendors in my humble opinion. If you have ever dealt with Comcast I feel for you brother. Horrible!!! Absolutely horrible company. Be prepared for a price hike every January.

I guess it could be worse though. I complained to a golfing buddy that I had received a $256 invoice from Comcast and he said his was $700 plus. Can you imagine that? A $700 monthly bill? Come to find out he also has all his family’s cell phones on the bill.

Comcast is always asking us to place our cell phones on their service. Are they crazy? We live close to the Texas Gulf Coast and are subject to hurricanes every August through November. Having a cell phone to call the power company is a necessity. With the way Comcast is “always” down do you think I would want to rely on Comcast for cell service? Better think again.
